zaviedli Československé aerolínie novinku
pre zahraničných hostí kúpeľov – nedeľné
lety do Prahy. Po prílete bola
zorganizovaná prehliadka pamätihodností
mesta, obed v reštaurácii Vikárka na
Hradčanoch a večer odlet späť do Piešťan.
Kúpele navštevovali zahraničné
delegácie, predovšetkým zo socialistických
krajín (Čína, Sovietsky zväz,
Vietnam, Mongolsko a i.), ale i z krajín
arabského sveta a sporadicky aj z krajín
západnej Európy. Napríklad 2. apríla 1980
navštívil kúpele vtedajší veľvyslanec
Sovietskeho zväzu v Československu
A. Botvin; 28. novembra 1980 navštívil
kúpele i mesto Piešťany minister pre
miestnu správu Sýrskej arabskej republiky

Francúzsko – Československo, v auguste
1982 riaditeľ Svetovej zdravotníckej
organizácie H. Mahler, koncom roku 1982
generálny tajomník Všeindického

Intenzívne boli kontakty s družobným
mestom Piešťan - Heinolou vo Fínsku. Jej
predstavitelia viackrát navštívili mesto
i kúpele. Napríklad starosta Heinoly
Jarrko Paronen s manželkou bol
v Piešťanoch od 15. do 21. 9. 1985.
V apríli 1985 sa v kúpeľoch liečila pani
Brigite White, prvá pacientka z Bermúd,
ktorá bola s úrovňou liečby veľmi
spokojná.
Nechýbali ani významní domáci hostia:
v septembri 1981 bol hosťom kúpeľov
prvý československý kozmonaut Vladimír
Remek s manželkou Hanou, v priebehu
80. rokov tu viackrát absolvoval liečebný
pobyt dramatik Ján Solovič, ktorý odvtedy
pravidelne navštevuje Piešťany. V auguste
1986 sa tu liečila významná operná
speváčka Jarmila Novotná (dlhé roky
žijúca a pôsobiaca v zahraničí – v Berlíne,
Viedni, New Yorku a i.).
Podobne ako v uplynulých desaťročiach
sa v kúpeľoch konalo veľa kultúrnych
podujatí, kongresov a konferencií.
Napríklad 25. – 27. januára 1981 sa
v kongresovej sále kúpeľov konal XXI. čs.
chirurgický kongres s medzinárodnou
účasťou, lekársky seminár poriadaný
v spolupráci s Generálnym riaditeľstvom
Slovakoterma (13. júna 1986), 13. októbra
1983 vystupoval v kúpeľoch 60-členný
chlapčenský zbor z Aachenu (SRN).
V auguste 1987 sa v Spoločenskom centre
kúpeľov v spolupráci s mestom, Mestským
kultúrnym strediskom a Mestskou
knižnicou prvýkrát konali Dni indickej
kultúry. Na otvorení sa zúčastnil U. G.
Soni, veľvyslanec Indickej republiky.
Zmeny v novembri 1989 priniesli pád
socialistického režimu a vlády jednej
strany. Otvorili sa hranice a možnosti
cestovania. Piešťanské kúpele začali
navštevovať významní predstavitelia zo
západnej Európy. Jedným z prvých bol 23.
júna 1990 korunný princ Philippe,
následník belgického trónu. z

he interest in treatment was rising
thanks to the new spa buildings. In
April 1980, more than 2800 patients
from 34 countries received
treatments in the spa and 37 474 patients
were treated in 1981. A sanatorium,
František Zupka, (today’s Hotel Park) which
belonged to the trade union was opened
near the centre of Piešťany on 10
November 1979. The spa hotel Slovan was
closed on 1 November 1985. Despite
various intentions to reconstruct this
building (as well as the projects of
investors after 1989), it has been falling
into ruins for almost 25 years.
Czechoslovak Airlines started to organise
special Sunday flights to Prague for foreign
spa guests in the main spa season in 1981.
After the arrival, the visitors went
sightseeing, later they had lunch in the
Vikárka restaurant in Hradčany (the
historical part of Prague) and in the
evening they flew back to Piešťany.
The spa was visited by delegations from
foreign countries, especially from socialist
ones (China, the Soviet Union, Vietnam,
Mongolia, etc.) as well as from Arabic
countries, but rarely from Western
European countries. The spa was visited by
the following politicians and
representatives: the Ambassador of the
Soviet Union to Czechoslovakia, A. Botvin
on 2 April 1980; the Minister for Local
Administration of the Syrian Arab
Republic, Adnan Dabbab on 28 November
1980; the Vice-chairman of the
organisation France - Czechoslovakia,
Henry Faure at the end of January 1982;
the Director-General of the World Health
Organisation, H. Mahler in August 1982;
the Secretary General of The All India
Trade Union Congress, Indrajit Gupta at
the end of 1982. Piešťany had intensive
contacts with its twin town Heinola in
Finland. Its representatives visited our spa
several times - the Mayor of Heinola,
Jarrko Paronen, stayed here with his wife
from 15 to 21 September 1985.
Mrs. Brigitte White, the first patient
from the Bermuda Islands, came to the spa
in April 1985, and was very satisfied with
the quality of treatment.
The spa was also visited by guests from
our country: the first Czechoslovak
astronaut, Vladimír Remek with his wife
Hana in September 1981; a dramatist Ján
Solovič received the treatment here several
times in the 1980s and he has visited
Piešťany regularly ever since. Jarmila
Novotná, a distinguished opera singer
visited the spa in August 1986 (she lived
and worked many years abroad - in Berlin,
Vienna, New York, etc.).
During the 1980s, many cultural events,
congresses and conferences took place in
the spa: The XXI. Czechoslovak Congress of
Surgeons with the international
attendance in the Congress Hall from 25 to
27 January 1981; a seminar for doctors was
organised with the cooperation of the
headquarters of Slovakoterma on 13 June
1986; a 60-member boys’ choir from
Aachen (Germany) gave a performance in
