was really created is known to<br />
everybody. On 18 July 2002, full<br />
form (SIDCUL) was created with an<br />
initial share capital of Rs. 50 crore in<br />
which the governm<strong>en</strong>t’s contribution<br />
was Rs. 20 crore. It dev<strong>elo</strong>ped 800<br />
acre of agricultural land located in<br />
Haridwar, Pant Nagar, <strong>De</strong>hradun<br />
and Kotdwar. Industrial units running<br />
here are being provided all sorts of<br />
conce<strong>ss</strong>ions and exemptions. On<br />
the other hand, no serious efforts<br />
are being tak<strong>en</strong> to revive closed<br />
factories such as IDPL, HMT,<br />
Stardia Chemicals etc.<br />
5. Tourism<br />
Activities being undertak<strong>en</strong> in the<br />
name of pr<strong>om</strong>oting eco-tourism<br />
have giv<strong>en</strong> impetus to private<br />
occupation of land. This can be se<strong>en</strong><br />
in the sudd<strong>en</strong> rise in dev<strong>elo</strong>ping<br />
tourist resorts, <strong>en</strong>tertainm<strong>en</strong>t parks,<br />
hotels, water parks etc.<br />

Ashrams etc.<br />
Since Uttarakhand is called ‘<strong>De</strong>v<br />
Bhumi’, religious, spiritual institutions<br />
and ashrams are found in great<br />
numbers here. Thousands of acres<br />
of land have be<strong>en</strong> giv<strong>en</strong> to these<br />
