<strong>Battlefords</strong> Registered Music<br />

Teachers’ Association<br />

Since its founding in 1948, the <strong>Battlefords</strong> branch of the<br />

Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers Association has been<br />

actively concerned and involved in the provision of quality music<br />

education. Active members of the association reside in Glenbush, Cut<br />

Knife, Shellbrook, Spiritwood, Unity, Battleford, North Battleford and<br />

surrounding rural areas.<br />

The members frequently serve their communities as church organists,<br />

accompanists, guest soloists, playing for weddings or funerals, as well<br />

as teaching and preparing students for music festivals, examinations<br />

and public recitals. At least one degree from a recognized educational<br />

institution must be obtained before becoming a full member of the<br />

association.<br />

Because of affi liation with the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers<br />

Association students of Registered Music Teachers have special<br />

opportunities to achieve experience in music writing competitions<br />

conducted nationally. Students who perform can take part in auditions<br />

for the Young Artist Series. Winners of this competition will perform<br />

a series of concerts on a tour which is hosted by the Registered Music<br />

Teachers Association.<br />

Canada Music Week Recital is to be held November 18, 2012 in<br />

North Battleford, SK.<br />

<strong>Battlefords</strong> Sailing Club<br />

This club is one of the fi nest sailing club facilities in the province.<br />

Built in 1985, the facility offers a large lounge area, fully equipped<br />

kitchen, change rooms and indoor showers, offi ce and concession. The<br />

clubhouse is available for rent on a daily basis at reasonable rates. The<br />

clubhouse is located on a sandy beach, just east of Meota Regional Park<br />

on the south shore of Jackfi sh Lake.<br />

The club offers inter club sailing competition and also hosts<br />

sailing lessons with the beginner class and advanced classes,<br />

and offers kayak lessons with its newly acquired recreational<br />

kayaks. This year’s regatta will be held July 28 and 29, sailing school<br />

July 23 - 27 and is the major event sponsored by the club. The club has<br />

an active membership and guests are always welcome.<br />

<strong>Battlefords</strong> Senior Soccer<br />

Association Inc.<br />

The BSSA organizes outdoor soccer for men and women. They also<br />

organize an indoor league for women and a men’s drop in night.<br />

League play started in 1996.<br />

<strong>Battlefords</strong> Skating Club<br />

The <strong>Battlefords</strong> Skating Club is a great place for children of all ages to<br />

come and learn how to skate. The club offers learn to skate for children<br />

age 3 -5 years, CanSkate and StarSkate programs to skaters from the<br />

<strong>Battlefords</strong> and surrounding areas.<br />

The programs are offered Monday through Saturday at various rinks<br />

in the <strong>Battlefords</strong> from September- March. Registration is held in late<br />

August as well as throughout the season.<br />

<strong>Battlefords</strong> Ukrainian Seniors<br />

Society Branch No. 184<br />

The <strong>Battlefords</strong> Ukrainian Seniors Society Branch No. 184 was fi rst<br />

organized October 1977. The purpose was to get Ukrainian Canadians<br />

together for recreation and socialization. Having no permanent home,<br />

the basements of the two Ukrainian churches were put to use, alternating<br />

every Wednesday for readings, cards, singing and general socializing.<br />

In January 1980, we acquired the former band hall, started dismantling<br />

on January 14, 1980 and in three days time had it moved to our present<br />
