Cancer Dressings, which are provided free of charge to cancer patients.<br />

The Order of United Commercial<br />

Travellers of America<br />

North Battleford Council #645<br />

The Order of United Commercial Travelers of America was founded<br />

on January 16, 1938.<br />

This is an International fraternal organization whose aim is to:<br />

• unite fraternally all persons of good moral character who are now<br />

or may hereafter become eligible to membership under the provisions<br />

of the constitution of the order;<br />

• give all moral and material aid in its power to its members and those<br />

dependent on them. Also to assist the widows, widowers and orphans<br />

of deceased members;<br />

• establish indemnity funds and issue insurance and other benefi ts<br />

permissible under the laws governing fraternal benefi t societies;<br />

• secure just and equitable consideration for all members.<br />

The North Battleford Council has been in existence since the early<br />

1930s and has spent a great deal of time and effort raising funds for<br />

the Canadian Cancer Society. Another major project is the support of<br />

Centennial Park Education Centre. We also help the Special Olympics<br />

in their endeavours and sponsor Junior Golf.<br />

We meet the second Wednesday of each month in the Canadian<br />

Cancer Society offi ce.<br />

River Heights Lodge Auxiliary<br />

The Auxiliary focuses their efforts on fundraising for resident comfort<br />

items, and facility needs. Some to the purchased items have included:<br />

over bed tables, sheepskins, large screen TV’s, birthday fl owers and<br />

Christmas gifts. We also support community outings by purchasing<br />

tickets for the Handi-Bus.<br />

We meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 12 noon at River Heights<br />

Lodge.<br />

The Rotary Club of the <strong>Battlefords</strong><br />

Chartered on April 26, 1920<br />

Rotary is an organization of business and professional women and<br />

men united to provide humanitarian service, to encourage high ethical<br />

standards in all vocations, and to help build good will and peace in the<br />

world. Membership is based on business classifi cation and normally<br />

attracts proprietors, partners, corporate offi cers and managers of worthy<br />

businesses and professions.<br />

Internationally, Rotary has raised more than $600 million<br />

to support an immunization program to eradicate polio in the<br />

world.<br />

In The Battleford’s many of our projects have focused on the<br />

celebration of excellence in youth as leaders in tomorrow’s world.<br />

Scholarships in academics and the arts, RYLA, RYPEN, and<br />

international student exchange are all examples of Rotary commitment<br />

to youth in the <strong>Battlefords</strong>..<br />

Rotary has supported local projects such as the Rotary Skateboard<br />

Park, King Hill, Multipurpose Walking Trail, the Senator Sparrow<br />

Splash Park and CUPlex. Many of the funds raised for the projects<br />

come from the Trip of the Month, the famous Spud-Nut booth at the<br />

fair and Hockey Draft.<br />

The Rotary Club of the <strong>Battlefords</strong> sponsors the Integrity<br />

Award each year and is awarded at the President’s Wind Up. A non-<br />

Rotarian is awarded the award for his or her integrity in their profession<br />

and/or volunteer work within the community.<br />

Rotary meets each Monday at 12:00 noon at the Tropical Inn.<br />

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch<br />

No. 9<br />

Following the Great War of 1914-18 veterans formed clubs throughout<br />

Canada. They became an offi cial service club in 1925 when a Dominion<br />

Organization was duly registered and Legion clubs were formed in each<br />

province wherever veterans settled. The Battleford Branch of the Royal<br />

Canadian Legion was chartered October 6, 1926.<br />

The purpose of the Legion is to constitute an association of those who<br />

have served or are serving in Her Majesties Armed Forces and others<br />

who support the purpose of the Legion. To bring about unity of all who<br />

served. To further among them the spirit of comradeship and mutual<br />

help. To perpetuate the memory and deed of the fallen and those who<br />

die in the future. To promote and care for memorials to their valor and<br />
