a variety of activities. Members of the society come from the general
membership who join active committees. New members are always
welcome. Honorary and regular offi cers of the society form the board
of directors. Day to day operations are furthered from the board by
employees.
Current activities focus around the Battlefords Children’s Festival,
CPCA Races, 4-H Regional Show and Sale, and the 125th annual
Agricultural Exhibition known as Northwest Territorial Days August 14
- 17, with a parade to kick it off August 13 in the evening. Parade theme
is “125 Years of History in the Making”. Agrimex is a commercial trade
fair that allows business people to exhibit in appropriate classifi cations
to support agriculture, business and industry. The Mistletoe Craft and
Gift Show and Sale will be held November 3 and 4, 2012.
Based on 70 acres of property on the eastern edge of the city the
grounds boast the Agriplex, offi ce, fi ve livestock barns, AgriVilla,
grandstand, riding arenas and race track. Efforts are continuously in
progress to upgrade the facilities to be able to serve an ever-changing
community by hosting a variety of activities annually. The Agricultural
Society is an integral part of our tourism industry.
This year’s president is Dana Alexander. Society staff includes
general manager Jocelyn Ritchie, Amy Schick, George Geering, Elaine
Geering and Amanda Perepliokin.

Battlefords &
Area Horticulture Society
This is the Horticultural Society’s 66th Anniversary and throughout
those many years the society has provided horticultural information
to its members and the community. The society promotes and assists
community beautifi cation.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month, with the exception
of August and December. All meetings are held at the Hillcrest Centre and
the membership fee is $5.00 per year. Members can also take advantage
of a subscription to “the Gardener for the Prairies” at a special rate.
We will be hosting our annual Horticulture Show August 15 – 17, 2012
at the Agriplex Building on the Exhibition Grounds in conjunction with
the annual fair. All residents of the area are welcome to enter. There is no
entry fee. You can call any of the executive members for more information.
This will be a great show with gardeners exhibiting the best they grow.
There will also be some special displays. Show books are available at the
Battlefords Agricultural Society offi ce or from the secretary.
Our main fund raisers continue to be our Spring House Plant and Bake
Sale, Spring Bedding Plant Sale and our Fall Bake and “What-not” Sale.
Occasionally we bring in a key-note speaker and invite the public. We
hope to have this an on-going project each spring.
We have welcomed many new members, and they come to learn and
participate in gardening enjoyment. Members come from about a 50
mile radius.
