Ionic Lodge No. 31 A.F. and A.M. Ionic Lodge No. 31 was instituted in North Battleford in December of 1906. The Philanthropy of the Masonic Order is Youth. Ionic Lodge provides an award to the Musical Festival in Speech Arts. We also sponsor a young boy or girl to the provincial leadership youth program, which promotes to improve leadership skills. The Masonic Youth Trust Fund provides scholarships to students to further their education. We also sponsor the boys of Aurora Chapter of De Molay. They meet in the Masonic Hall. Wives of K-40 members are K-ettes. The K-40 Club functions mainly as a social organization to continue the fellowship established in Kinsmen. The K-40 Bonspiel, held each year in a different location in Canada, is a major event. K-40 members also assist Kinsmen and Kinettes when called upon. Supper meetings are held when required. Kinette Club of North Battleford An organizational meeting of the Kinette Club was held November 7, 1950. On January 9, 1951 at the Queen’s Hotel in Battleford, the Offi cers of the newly formed Kinette Club of North Battleford were installed. Becoming a Kinette is very simple. You have to be a female of at least 19 years of age, of good character and good standing in the community, live and work within the club’s territorial limits, and not hold a membership in any other Kinette club. Most importantly, you do not have to be a Kinsmen wife to join and there is no longer an age limit for members to retire at. Some of the projects we have worked on in the last year are: • supply food and beverages for the Mental Health Association Outpatient Socials • Cystic Fibrosis Christmas Bake Sale • Kildeer Play Park sponsorship • Christmas tins for Catholic Family Services • Telemiracle Projects • Secret Santa for a local family We also help our brother Kinsmen Club by working at the Christmas Tree lot and assisting with their Annual Indoor Rodeo. Donations have been made to: dance festivals; music festivals; Camp Tamarack; local nursing homes; city recreational facilities. The Kinettes hold their meetings on the First Tuesday of every month starting in September and continuing to June. New members are always welcome! Three other clubs and the Battlefords club joined the Kinsmen Association in 1927. The Association of Kinsmen Clubs stretches across Canada in large and small communities from coast to coast. The Association was founded by Hal Rogers of Hamilton, Ont. He lived to see the Association grow and become a truly important all-Canadian service club for young men with the working motto “Serving the Community’s Greatest Needs”. The purpose of the club has been to be actively involved in helping their community and to assist in the personal development of its members. The first large project was the construction of the North Battleford Swimming Pool in 1930 at a cost of $10,000. In keeping with its long tradition, the North Battleford Kinsmen Club donated $60,000 to construction of the indoor City Kinsmen Swimming Pool. The Club has also made substantial donations to dozens of other community projects throughout the years, including the purchase of playground equipment for Kinsmen Park and the purchase of the Kinsmen Van which is utilized by various non-profi t organizations in the Battlefords for their transportation needs. In addition, the club has contributed approximately $50,000 to construction of the Band Hall. The North Battleford City Kinsmen Band has been a very successful organization in promoting music among the young students in the Battlefords. For more than 25 years the club has been actively involved in Telemiracle in Regina and Saskatoon with all of Saskatchewan participating to the fullest. The club meets at the Wildlife Federation Building on the second and fourth Monday of the month for a supper meeting at 7:00 p.m. Membership requires a male to be between the ages of 19 and 45 and to be introduced to the club by an active Kinsmen. New individuals interested in joining the club should contact any Kinsmen member or the executive.
