Serving a large geographic area, North West Regional College<br />

provides a wide variety of training and services. Its two main<br />

campuses are located in North Battleford and Meadow Lake,<br />

with other offi ces in Spiritwood, St. Walburg, and Unity. Programs<br />

are offered at other communities throughout the region where<br />

needed.<br />

University classes range from first year classes to a Masters<br />

degree program in Education. Students can complete all four years of<br />

their Bachelor degree in Education at the Meadow Lake Campus.<br />

Health and community service programs are available, in addition to the<br />

many training opportunities in the trades and in business. An increasing<br />

amount of industry training has developed recently, including many<br />

of the safety training courses required by the oil and gas sector.<br />

Academic upgrading enables students to improve their educational and<br />

employment prospects.General interest classes and computer training<br />

provide professional development opportunities in a wide range of<br />

courses.<br />

In addition to programming, the College also provides career<br />

counseling services to the public and to business and industry. A<br />

comprehensive resource centre is available.<br />

Playtime Co-operative Childcare<br />

This non-profi t parent co-operative is licensed to provide childcare<br />

services for 73 children aged six weeks to 12 years. The centre is open<br />

7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Playtime Childcare<br />

provides full-time, part-time and drop-in childcare services.<br />

Arrangements can be made for school age children up to 12 years of<br />

age to come for noon lunch as well as before and after school.<br />

Daily, pre-kindergarten skills are learned. All activities are designed<br />

with each individual child’s needs in mind. We do this by combining a<br />

learn through play and informal instruction philosophy. Programming<br />

is developed and implemented by staff trained in Early Childhood<br />

Education.<br />

Children with special needs are integrated within the center and<br />

individual programs designed specifi cally for each child allow them to<br />

participate in all areas.<br />

A hot lunch and two snacks are provided each day.<br />

Families with low incomes, single parents or students can apply for<br />

childcare subsidies.<br />

Prairie Employment Program Inc.<br />

Prairie Employment Program Inc. (1977) (PEP) is a non-profi t<br />

community-based organization which is governed by a local board of<br />

directors. PEP is funded by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Advanced<br />

Education, Employment and Immigration (AEEI) and the<br />

Government of Canada through Service Canada (SC).<br />

PEP’s mandate is to assist clients by establishing realistic employment<br />

goals, designing programs focused on solid outcomes and providing<br />

follow-up services and supports to ensure long-term success in the<br />

workforce.<br />

PEP works with unemployed individuals sixteen and over who offer<br />

a variety of skills and are seeking employment. Through the dynamics<br />

of one-to-one counselling and the Skills Training Employability<br />

Plan (STEP) employment continuum, the agency provides services<br />

to facilitate career decision making, skills enhancement, employment<br />

preparation, work experience and work assessments. Along the<br />

STEP stairway, the agency offers an array of employment supports<br />

through the CAPACITIES Project which assist persons with disabilities<br />

and barriers to participate as fully as possible in the labour market. The<br />
