Saskatchewan Hospital Auxiliary (*help turn STIGMA around) AMGITS* is a community volunteer organization, formed in 1986, dedicated to improving the quality of life for long-term mentally ill patients at the Saskatchewan Hospital They host family functions, and raise funds to provide equipment, decorate to individualize and humanize patients’ living areas, provide tickets for their recreation and help promote their education. They also act as an advocacy group for individuals suffering from long term mental illness and participate in public awareness programs designed to reduce stigma. Membership is $5 per year. Volunteers are much needed as club executives, committee members, fund-raisers and to assist with volunteer service events. There is no known cause or cure. Alzheimer Disease is the leading cause of dementia, a set of symptoms that includes a loss of memory, judgment and reasoning, and changes in mood and behaviour. Alzheimer Disease is not a normal part of aging. Often those who care for their affl icted loved ones feel isolated and unsupported. The Battlefords formed a support group for caregivers in 1982. Our support group allows participants to learn more about providing care, to share their feelings, and exchange ideas on how to love and care for people with Alzheimer Disease. We are also devoted to preventing future sexual assaults through public awareness and prevention education. Our services are free and confi dential to all who have been affected by sexual assault, past or present, male or female, adult or child. We also provide support to the families and signifi cant others of survivors. This includes: child molesting, incest, sexual harassment, date rape and all other sexual offences. To provide services that deal with the effects and the risk of sexual abuse by providing counselling, crisis support, education and awareness to individuals and the community. Battlefords and Area MADD Chapter Purpose: To stop impaired driving and support victims of this violent crime. Battlefords and Area MADD Chapter meets the second Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Library. We are a non-profit, charitable organization providing for the recreational, cultural, educational and social needs of all children and youth 6 - 14 years of age in our community. We provide a “Safe Place” allowing kids to be kids. Youth are always supervised and kept busy, and we have Zero Tolerance for bullying and abuse. Every day is an adventure and there is never a dull moment around the Club. Program hours of operation run six days per week, during the afternoon, evenings and weekends. All programs focus on offering activities that refl ect the social, educational, cultural and recreational goals of our agency and our community. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday - RBC after-school program - 2:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Evening drop in program - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Weekends - Saturdays 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Living Sky School Division No. 202 Growth Without Limits Learning For All Living Sky School Division is a public school division that includes the Battlefords, many communities, villages, First Nation communities and Hutterite Colonies. The meetings are now held at 7:00 p.m. the River Heights Lodge in North Battleford on the third Thursday of each month except May, June, July, August and December. The Chapter raises funds for research with sales of Christmas cakes and other Christmas items, the M.S. Walk, carnation sales at Mother’s day and raffl es. The chapter also holds socials at various times of the year. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings, and we are always looking for new members and volunteers. Outreach workers work with all youth and their families in the City of North Battleford, Town of Battleford, and the surrounding area and also work collaboratively with all agencies in the Battleford’s. Concern For Youth’s mission is: • Use a proactive approach to assist youth in making responsible decisions. • To identify the needs of youth. • To act as a liaison between youth and community programming. • To raise the profi le of youth issues in the community. The primary objective of outreach workers is to locate, interact, and connect with youth at risk and their families and make referrals to social and community agencies that can provide them with programs and services. Outreach workers also provide the following services: • Home visits • School visits • Personal and Family support • Will attend any meetings with youth e.g. Court, doctor, counselor, etc. • Assistance with any forms • Recreational Services e.g. A friend to play basketball with, etc. • Positive role model for youth • Act as a liaison and mediator • Ensure youth are safe • Empower youth to make safe, positive, healthy, and responsible decisions Page 36 Battlefords Community Directory 2012
