A comparison of the two state-space graphs (Petri nets) in fig. 21.4<br />

reveals that the conclusions derived by the expert are different from that<br />

derived by the system. The explanation traced by them also differs<br />

considerably. For instance, when fact3 is derived by the system from fact1 <strong>and</strong><br />

fact2, the expert derives fact8 from fact1 <strong>and</strong> fact4. Since {fact1, fact2, fact4 <strong>and</strong><br />

fact6} are available in the database, one possible reason of excluding the firing<br />

of the rule: fact1, fact4→fact8 by the system is because of the lack of this<br />

knowledge from the KB of the expert system. The validation scheme should,<br />

therefore, ensure inclusion of this rule in the knowledge base of the expert<br />

system.<br />
