Us<strong>in</strong>g police apprehension reports from<br />
the year 2000 the analysis found that:<br />
• 5,352 young people aged between 10 <strong>and</strong><br />
17 accounted for 8,992 apprehensions<br />
• 70% of these young people were apprehended<br />
on just one occasions with 12 months<br />
• 15% were apprehended twice, 7% three times<br />
<strong>and</strong> 8% four or more times <strong>in</strong> 12 months.<br />
Police apprehension reports may <strong>in</strong>clude multiple<br />
offences so analysis was also undertaken to<br />
determ<strong>in</strong>e the total number of alleged offences<br />
recorded by these young people <strong>in</strong> 2000:<br />
• 48% of the young people had only one<br />
alleged offence <strong>in</strong> 12 months<br />
• 21% had two alleged offences, 11%<br />
had three <strong>and</strong> the rema<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g 20% had<br />
four or more alleged offences.<br />
