Milestones<br />

Detroit Automobile Co., established 1899, reorganized as<br />

"<strong>Cadillac</strong> Automobile Co."<br />

<strong>Cadillac</strong> Automobile Co. and Leland & Faulconer consolidate as<br />

"<strong>Cadillac</strong> Motor Car Company" with Henry M. Leland, grand old<br />

man of the industry, as General Manager.<br />

First four-cylinder establishes <strong>Cadillac</strong> as the pioneer of multicylinder<br />

motor cars.<br />

Famous Johannson gauges, First imported into United States by<br />

<strong>Cadillac</strong>, enable <strong>Cadillac</strong> to become the following year the—<br />

First American Car to be awarded the Dewar Trophy by Royal<br />

Automobile Club of London for being First to achieve interchangeability<br />

through standardization of parts.<br />

<strong>Cadillac</strong> purchased by General Motors Corporation. Fourcylinder<br />

production increases six times over 1908 production.<br />

First to offer Closed Bodies as standard equipment. Less than<br />

10% of cars then produced had closed bodies.<br />

Custom Coachcraft by Fleetwood Body Company begins.<br />

First to equip cars with Electric Starting, Lighting, Ignition, for<br />

which <strong>Cadillac</strong> again was awarded the Dewar Trophy. First<br />

and only car in the world to win this award twice.<br />
