Checks every turn. Failure means a<br />

fall that inflicts 1d6 points <strong>of</strong> damage.<br />

Every six hours (Midnight, 6:00<br />

AM, Noon, and 6:00 PM), a savage<br />

hailstorm bursts from the sky, thundering<br />

onto the ground throughout<br />

the hex. Hailstones the size <strong>of</strong> small<br />

rocks pummel anything exposed to<br />

them, inflicting 2d10 points <strong>of</strong> damage<br />

upon characters in any protection<br />

flimsier than plate armor. Characters<br />

in plate armor suffer 1d6 points <strong>of</strong><br />

damage. A character can use a small<br />

shield to protect himself from 1d4<br />

points <strong>of</strong> the damage he would other-<br />

wise suffer. A large shield will negate<br />

1d8 points <strong>of</strong> damage. (<strong>The</strong> shields<br />

will not protect characters totally<br />

because <strong>of</strong> the chaotic nature <strong>of</strong> the<br />

hailstorm—some <strong>of</strong> the hail comes<br />

straight down while other chunks travel<br />

almost horizontally.)<br />

After one round, the hailstorm<br />

stops, and the hail immediately<br />

begins to evaporate. One hour later,<br />

it will all be gone. <strong>The</strong> hail turns<br />

directly from ice to water vapor as<br />

long as it lies on the ground. If characters<br />

pick up the hailstones, or otherwise<br />

protect them from the ground,<br />

they melt normally.<br />

Any characters flying when the<br />

hailstorm strikes will be unable to use<br />

shields to protect themselves. In addition,<br />

because <strong>of</strong> their exposed positions,<br />

they will suffer double the<br />

damage listed. <strong>The</strong>y will also be<br />

forced to the ground. If a character is<br />

flying with a fly spell or through the<br />

use <strong>of</strong> a magical device that the PC<br />

actually wears, he can land with no<br />

additional ill effects other than those<br />

described. If, however, a character is<br />

using a broom <strong>of</strong> flying, a flying carpet,<br />

or other device that requires that<br />

he remain balanced upon it, he must<br />

make a Dexterity Check with a -4
