Useful classroom resources<br />

Charts of nature, the seasons, etc. Use charts associated with English <strong>and</strong> Irish reading schemes.<br />

Sets of picture cards <strong>for</strong> sequencing <strong>and</strong> matching, describing emotions, etc.<br />

Phonics schemes as used in infant classes.<br />

Flash cards – use pictures <strong>and</strong>/or words. Make a double set <strong>for</strong> snap.<br />

Collection of pictures from magazines, catalogues, etc.<br />

Big scrapbooks <strong>for</strong> making class storybooks, class diary, weather journal, etc.<br />

A ‘feely bag’ containing, <strong>for</strong> example, fur, s<strong>and</strong>paper, glass (very small bottle only), sponge, plastic,<br />

elastic b<strong>and</strong>, piece of lego, feather, lead weight (use a fishing weight), cotton wool, piece of c<strong>and</strong>le,<br />

blu-tack, etc. The bag will grow over time.<br />

Objects <strong>for</strong> ‘play shop’. Use those seen in the home <strong>and</strong> in the shops as well as classroom objects.
