Mr. Churchy who obferved them to keep gathering unto<br />

that Place, until there feem'd to be a formidable black<br />

heap <strong>of</strong> them. Now brave boys (faid Mr. Church to his<br />

Men) if we mind our hits, we may have a brave Shot, and let<br />

ourJign forfiring on them, be their rifing tip to fire into the<br />

Fort. It was not long before the Indians rifing up as one<br />

body, defigning to pour a Volley into the Fort. When<br />

our Church nimbly ftarted up and gave them fuch a round<br />

Volley, and unexpected clap on their backs, that they who<br />

efcaped with their Lives, were fo furprized, that they<br />

fcampered, they knew not whether themfelves; about a<br />

dozen <strong>of</strong> them ran right over the Log into the Fort, and<br />

took into a fort <strong>of</strong> a Hovel that was build with Poles, after<br />

the manner <strong>of</strong> a corn crib. Mr. Church's Men having<br />

their Catteridges fix'd, were foon ready to obey his order,<br />

which was immediately to charge and run on upon the<br />

Hovel, and over-fet it, calling as he run on to fome that<br />

were in the Fort to aflift him in over-fetting <strong>of</strong> it; they no<br />

fooner came to Face the Enemies fhelter, but Mr. Church<br />

difcover'd that one <strong>of</strong> them had found a hole to point his<br />

Gun through, right at him; but however incouraged his<br />

Company, and ran right on, till he was ftruck with Three<br />

Bullets, one in his Thigh, which was near half <strong>of</strong> it cut<br />

<strong>of</strong>f as it glanced on the joynt <strong>of</strong> the Hip-bone; another<br />

thro' the gatherings <strong>of</strong> his Breeches and Draws, with a<br />

fmall flefh Wound; a third peirced his Pocket, and<br />
