came to Mr. Church) and told him, That now they were<br />

all ingaged to fightfor the Englifh, and he might call forth<br />

all, or any <strong>of</strong> them at any time as he faw occafion to fight<br />

the Enemy, and prefented him with a very line Firelock.<br />

Mr. Church accepts their <strong>of</strong>fer, drew out a number <strong>of</strong><br />

them, and fet out next Morning before day for Plymouth,<br />

where they arrived fafe the fame day.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Governour being informed <strong>of</strong> it, came early to<br />

Town next Morning : and by that time he had Englifii<br />

Men enough to make up a good Company, when joyned<br />

with Mr. Churches Indians, that <strong>of</strong>fered their Voluntary<br />

Service to go under his Command in queft <strong>of</strong> the Enemy.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Governour then gave him a Commiffion, which is as<br />

follows,<br />

Ordered, Commiffion?d, and Impowred to raife a Company<br />

<strong>of</strong> Volunteers <strong>of</strong> about 200 Men, Englifh and Indians;<br />

the Englifii not exceeding the number <strong>of</strong> 60, <strong>of</strong> which Com-<br />

pany, orfo many <strong>of</strong> them as you can obtai7i, orfiiallfee caufe<br />

at prcfent to improve, yoil are to take the command and con-<br />

dticl, and to lead them forth now and hereafter, atfuck time,<br />

and unto fuch places within this Colony, or elfe where, within<br />

the confederate Colonies, as you fiiall think fit ; to difcover,<br />

purftce, fight, furprize, defiroy, or fubdue our Indian Ene-<br />

mies, or any part or parties <strong>of</strong> them that by the Providence<br />

<strong>of</strong> God you 7nay meet with ; or them or any <strong>of</strong> them by<br />

treaty and comp<strong>of</strong>ition to receive to mercy, if you fee rcafon
