Church tho't it was now time for him to take a Nap, hav-<br />

ing had no fleep in two days and one night before: told<br />

his men that if they would let him fleep two hours, they<br />

mould fleep all the reft <strong>of</strong> the night. He lay'd himfelf<br />

down and endeavoured to fleep, but all difp<strong>of</strong>ition to fleep<br />

departed from him. After he had lain a little while he<br />

looked up to fee how his Watch managed, but found them<br />

all faft a-fleep. Now Capt. Church had told Capt. Anna-<br />

wons company, as he had ordered his Indians to tell the<br />

others, that their lives mould all be fpared, excepting Capt.<br />

Atmawons, and it was not in his power to promife him his<br />

life, but he mufl carry him to his Matters at Plymouth<br />

and he would intreat them for his life. Now when Capt.<br />

Church found not only his own men, but all the Indians<br />

fall a-fleep Annawon only excepted, whom he perceived<br />

was as broad awake as himfelf; and fo they lay looking<br />

one upon the other perhaps an hour; Captain Church faid<br />

nothing to him, for he could not fpeak Indian, and tho't<br />

Annawon could not fpeak EngliJJi ; at length Annawon<br />

raifed himfelf up, caft <strong>of</strong>f his blanket, and with no more<br />

clothes than his fmall breeches, walked a little way back<br />

from the company: Capt. Church tho't no other but that<br />

he had occafion to eafe himfelf, and fo walked to fome dif-<br />
