6.0 Terminal Blend Mix <strong>Specifications</strong><br />

Except for the usage <strong>of</strong> rubber modified asphalt produced at a terminal, the mix design and<br />

construction <strong>of</strong> terminal blend mix is very similar to the ones with conventional or polymer<br />

modified hot asphalt mix. Therefore, the <strong>Rubber</strong>ized <strong>Asphalt</strong> Cement section described<br />

previously should include the major points that should be paid attention to.<br />

7.0 <strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>Rubber</strong> Chip Seals <strong>Specifications</strong><br />

<strong>Asphalt</strong> rubber chip seals normally result in better performance in terms <strong>of</strong> resisting reflective<br />

cracking and producing a longer life if placed correctly. This is due in large part to the higher<br />

binder content used during the application. The following sections describe the design and<br />

construction aspects <strong>of</strong> asphalt rubber chip seals.<br />

7.1 Design <strong>of</strong> <strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>Rubber</strong> Chip Seal<br />

<strong>Asphalt</strong> rubber chip seals have been used in Arizona, California and Texas for many years. Table<br />

8 shows the general binder design, chip aggregate, and other key design related information. In<br />

California, the chip seals also have been placed with warm mix additives. This results in a lower<br />

application temperature and less emissions.<br />

asphalt-rubber treatment.<br />
