The Superpave 9.5 R-Gap Graded mix design and JMF shall be according to the requirements specified in Table<br />

R2, Table 3 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 1151, and LS-309. For mix design purposes, the RAC shall be produced in the laboratory<br />

according to the following procedure:<br />

Heat up the base PGAC to 180 o C. Add 18-20% CR by weight <strong>of</strong> the PGAC while continuously blending the<br />

compound.<br />

Continue blending the RAC for 45 minutes at 180 o C.<br />

1151.04.02 Submission Requirements<br />

Subsection 1151.04.02 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 1151 is amended by the addition <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

The Contractor shall submit a plan and schedule to the Contract Administrator within two weeks <strong>of</strong> contract<br />

award describing how the Contractor will meet all the requirements <strong>of</strong> this non-standard special provision for<br />

review and approval including the following information in writing:<br />

a) Special actions to be taken to assure that the CR will be available meeting the requirements <strong>of</strong> the Contract<br />

Documents, including that the CR processor selected by the Contractor or asphalt cement supplier or both<br />

can provide the material required for the Contract, and how the Contractor will assure that the CR processor<br />

selected has sufficient time to produce the quantity <strong>of</strong> CR required.<br />

b) Information such as CR supplier’s name, address, CR gradation, materials safety data sheet (MSDS), method<br />

and equipment used to mix CR into mix, CR dosage, RAC reaction time, mixing temperature, RAC storage<br />

conditions and any need for agitation, RAC blending location (hot mix asphalt plant vs. asphalt supplier’s<br />

terminal) shall be provided.<br />

c) Special actions to be taken to prevent swelling <strong>of</strong> the briquettes during the mix design.<br />

d) Special actions to be taken to assure that the CR will be homogeneously distributed in the RMA.<br />

e) Special actions to be taken to prevent pick-up during compaction <strong>of</strong> the RMA.<br />

f) <strong>Product</strong> information on CR including information on how it was ground, whether cryogenic or ambient or<br />

both, shall be submitted with the mix design.<br />

g) A letter from the CR supplier indicating that the CR they are supplying is produced in Ontario from tires<br />

scrapped in Ontario.<br />

No RMA shall be placed on any trial section until the Contract Administrator acknowledges receipt <strong>of</strong> the plan<br />

and schedule in writing. Separate mix designs shall be submitted for each RMA type and for the control mix.<br />

1151.05 MATERIALS<br />

Section 1151.05 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 1151 is amended by addition <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />
