1151.05.06.04 <strong>Rubber</strong>ized <strong>Asphalt</strong> Cement<br />

CR added to the RAC shall meet the gradation requirements specified in Table R3 determined according to<br />

ASTM D5644. Wet-terminal blend RAC shall be produced as a Type III <strong>Asphalt</strong> <strong>Rubber</strong> Binder according to<br />

ASTM D6114. CR dosage by mass <strong>of</strong> wet-terminal blend RAC shall be 10% to 15%. Wet-field blend RAC (after<br />

reaction) shall meet the requirements found in Table R4. CR dosage by mass <strong>of</strong> wet-field blend RAC shall be<br />

18% to 20%. For the production <strong>of</strong> the RAC, parameters such as CR gradation, mixing method and equipment,<br />

dosage, reaction time, mixing temperature, storage conditions and need for agitation, blending location (project<br />

site vs. asphalt supplier’s terminal) shall be determined by the Contractor.<br />

When the RAC supplier specifies a CR gradation with additional restrictions, the CR shall also meet the RAC<br />

supplier’s gradation requirements. The CR material, PGAC and any antistripping additives required shall be<br />

compatible to ensure a good dissolution and reaction time. RAC produced shall be a homogenous mixture <strong>of</strong> CR<br />

and asphalt cement.<br />

In case <strong>of</strong> terminal blend, the following asphalt cement suppliers have indicated their ability to supply the RAC:<br />

a) Bitumar; b) Coco; c) Mc<strong>Asphalt</strong>; d) Shell<br />

1151.07 PRODUCTION<br />

1151.07.01 Anti-Stripping Additives<br />

Subsection 1151.07.01 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 1151 is amended by addition <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

When an anti-stripping agent is to be incorporated into the mix, the Contractor shall contact and consult with<br />

each supplier to determine whether or not the proposed anti-stripping agent is compatible with the RMA or RAC<br />

or both. In those cases where a supplier deems that the anti-stripping agent is incompatible, that anti-stripping<br />

agent shall not be used and the Contractor shall select and employ another anti-stripping agent that the suppliers<br />

indicate is compatible with the mix and RAC.<br />

1151.07.03 Field Blending Plant<br />

The Contractor shall contact OTS a minimum <strong>of</strong> 6 weeks prior to paving Superpave 12.5FC 1 R-Gap Graded to<br />

coordinate delivery and operation <strong>of</strong> the field blending plant. OTS contact information is provided earlier in this<br />

special provision.<br />

313.07 CONSTRUCTION<br />

313.07.06.01 Operational Constraints<br />

Clause 313.07.06.01 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 313 is amended by addition <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

The Contractor shall provide a minimum <strong>of</strong> 7 Days notice in writing to the Contract Administrator and to the<br />

Ministry’s Regional Head <strong>of</strong> Quality Assurance Section before paving any trial section.<br />

313.07.06.02 Paving<br />

Clause 313.07.06.02 <strong>of</strong> OPSS 313 is amended by addition <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />

The Contractor shall construct the trial section as indicated in Table R1, full width including shoulders.<br />

Transition areas shall be less than 50 m in length at the start and end <strong>of</strong> the trial section. The Contractor shall<br />
