PHYLUM PLATYHELMINTHES (FLATWORMS)- This phylum includes flatworms
of which there are about 9,000 forms so far known in the world. 'They comprise the free
living freshwater, marine, and land planarians (Turbcllaria), parasitic flukes
( Trematoda) and the parasitic tapeworms (Cestoda).
Class : Turbellaria.
Order : Trieladida.
Sub-order: Pattudocola (Freshwater forms).

1. Planaria sp. Locality : Stagnant rainwater pools and other freshwater tanks around
Bombay.
Sub-order: Terricola (Land forms).
2. Ripalium prosperina (Humbert) Locality : Mahableshwar, Western Ghats (Ca. 3,500
feet or 1,070 m.), Poona District.
Class : Trematoda.
Order : Prosotomata.
Sub-order : Distomata.
Superfamily : Fascioloidea.
1. Fasciola hepatica Linnaeus Livers of sheep and goats in Maharashtra.
2, Fasciolopsis buski (Lankester) (Giant Intestinal Fluke of man).
Locality : Kandivli, Bombay.
Class : Cestoda.
Order : Cyclophyllidea.
Superfamily : Taenioidea.
Family : Taeniidae.
3. Taenia solium (Linnaeus). This is the common or Pork Tape Worm in man.
PHYLUM NEMATODA(THREADWORMS) – The Nematodes or Threadworms are
either parasitic or free-living and about 10,000 known species of them in the world have
so far been listed. Some of the well known parasites in this group are—
1. Large intestinal Roundworm of man, Ascaris lumbricoides (Linnaeus) inhabiting the
large intestines.
