grief all the days<br />

that I have. But now I have awaked<br />

from the sleep of folly, my stupid heart has but now<br />

become prudent. . . . Since I am delivered from my dis-<br />

honourable Fate, my legs have become so light that birds<br />

cannot catch the dust of my feet. Thou seest me no longer<br />

a lover, as thou hast done hitherto. He that frees his<br />

reason from Fate is freed from troubles <strong>and</strong> relieved from<br />

manifold affliction ;<br />

wherever he may be, he does not seek<br />

gain from fear of damage.<br />

" Do thou thus likewise, if thou hast wits ; be like me,<br />

afflict not thyself any more about anything. Use wisdom<br />

<strong>and</strong> intelligence, for wisdom is royalty. If thou pursuest<br />

passion for a hundred years even, in the end thou shalt see<br />

nought profitable remain in thy h<strong>and</strong>s only wind."<br />
