A Certa<strong>in</strong> Man Healed 139<br />
Christians, apart from “signs” (ref. Chapter XI <strong>in</strong> this book).<br />
In this respect, Christians associat<strong>in</strong>g themselves with a<br />
pseudo-fundamentalism of this nature, contend<strong>in</strong>g for signs <strong>in</strong><br />
the Church today, have not only <strong>in</strong>volved themselves <strong>in</strong> error but<br />
are do<strong>in</strong>g someth<strong>in</strong>g which is quite detrimental to correctly understand<strong>in</strong>g<br />
God’s deal<strong>in</strong>gs surround<strong>in</strong>g Israel. <strong>The</strong>y have taken<br />
that which, for a God-orda<strong>in</strong>ed purpose, belongs to Israel; and<br />
they have brought it over <strong>in</strong>to the Church, produc<strong>in</strong>g confusion<br />
<strong>in</strong> this whole realm.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Church (comprised of all Christians) will be removed <strong>in</strong><br />
its present condition at the end of the dispensation, to be dealt<br />
with by Christ at His judgment seat, with a view to the Messianic<br />
Era. <strong>The</strong>n God will turn back to Israel and deal with the nation<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g Daniel’s unfulfilled Seventieth Week.<br />
Israel will pass through the fires of the Great Tribulation, with<br />
one end <strong>in</strong> view — the nation’s repentance. And, accord<strong>in</strong>gly, this<br />
period — a f<strong>in</strong>al seven years — will be of such a severe nature that<br />
repentance will ultimately be effected, result<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> God then heal<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the nation.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Sign Itself<br />
Isaiah 35:5, 6, a Messianic passage (vv. 1ff), states:<br />
“<strong>The</strong>n the eyes of the bl<strong>in</strong>d shall be opened, and the ears of the<br />
deaf shall be unstopped.<br />
<strong>The</strong>n shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the<br />
dumb s<strong>in</strong>g: for <strong>in</strong> the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams<br />
<strong>in</strong> the desert.”<br />
Isaiah had dealt with that which s<strong>in</strong> had wrought for both<br />
the people of Israel (sickness) and the land of Israel (desolation)<br />
as he opened his prophecy <strong>in</strong> the first chapter (vv. 2-7). But <strong>in</strong> the<br />
thirty-fifth chapter he writes about a time when heal<strong>in</strong>g would<br />
occur for both (as he had done <strong>in</strong> the latter part of the first chapter,<br />
lead<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to the second [1:16-19, 25-2:5]).<br />
When Christ was on earth manifest<strong>in</strong>g signs, the time of<br />
heal<strong>in</strong>g, spoken of centuries before by Isaiah, was “at hand [or,
