(Heb., har) the first four times that the word is used <strong>in</strong> Scripture<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g the Noachian Flood (Gen. 7:19, 20; 8:4, 5).<br />
<strong>The</strong> typological teach<strong>in</strong>g surround<strong>in</strong>g Noah and his family<br />
go<strong>in</strong>g through the Flood has to do with Israel go<strong>in</strong>g through the<br />
Tribulation yet future:<br />
Enoch was removed preced<strong>in</strong>g the Flood, as the Church<br />
will be removed preced<strong>in</strong>g the Tribulation.<br />
Noah and his family passed safely through the Flood, as<br />
Israel will pass safely through the Tribulation.<br />
Worldwide destruction occurred then, as worldwide destruction<br />
will occur dur<strong>in</strong>g the Tribulation.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re was a new beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g follow<strong>in</strong>g the Flood, as there<br />
will be a new beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g follow<strong>in</strong>g the Tribulation.<br />
This entire sequence, as it relates to the government of the<br />
earth, is seen through the manner <strong>in</strong> which the Hebrew word har<br />
(“mounta<strong>in</strong>”) appears the first four times <strong>in</strong> Genesis.<br />
<strong>The</strong> first appearance, <strong>in</strong> Gen. 7:19, shows the Flood waters<br />
cover<strong>in</strong>g “all the high hills [Hebrew pl. form of har, ‘mounta<strong>in</strong>s,‘<br />
ref. NASB], that were under the whole heaven.”<br />
<strong>The</strong> next use of the word shows the same th<strong>in</strong>g — “…and the<br />
mounta<strong>in</strong>s were covered” (v. 20b).<br />
<strong>The</strong>se two verses (Gen. 7:19, 20b) depict the scene at the end<br />
of forty days, show<strong>in</strong>g the depth of the Flood waters <strong>in</strong> relation to<br />
the mounta<strong>in</strong>s (the highest po<strong>in</strong>ts on earth). <strong>The</strong>n, a scene one<br />
hundred ten days later is depicted <strong>in</strong> Gen. 8:4, where the word is<br />
used a third time.<br />
Throughout the first one hundred fifty days of the Flood, water<br />
came up from below the earth’s surface and fell from above the<br />
earth’s surface.<br />
(<strong>The</strong> Hebrew word used for “ra<strong>in</strong>” dur<strong>in</strong>g both the first forty days<br />
[7:12] and the additional one hundred ten days [8:2] is geshem, mean<strong>in</strong>g<br />
“torrential ra<strong>in</strong>” [cf. I K<strong>in</strong>gs 18:45, where geshem is used].)<br />
At the end of forty days, all the mounta<strong>in</strong>s on earth were<br />
