time; they would have seen and understood that Scripture opens<br />
<strong>in</strong> this manner, deal<strong>in</strong>g with the earth’s restoration (establish<strong>in</strong>g<br />
an unchangeable pattern concern<strong>in</strong>g how God restores a ru<strong>in</strong>ed<br />
creation) which foreshadows man’s restoration (Gen. 1:1-2:3);<br />
and they would have seen and understood that the Sabbath was<br />
given to Israel, reflect<strong>in</strong>g back on the open<strong>in</strong>g verses of Scripture,<br />
<strong>in</strong> order to keep the thought ever before the nation that God was<br />
go<strong>in</strong>g to work six days (6,000 years) <strong>in</strong> man’s restoration and rest<br />
the seventh day (the seventh and last 1,000-year period with<strong>in</strong><br />
this established septenary structure).<br />
And had they understood these th<strong>in</strong>gs, when the Heir of the<br />
v<strong>in</strong>eyard appeared on the scene perform<strong>in</strong>g miraculous heal<strong>in</strong>gs<br />
on the Sabbath, they would have understood the significance of<br />
the events tak<strong>in</strong>g place.<br />
<strong>The</strong>y would have seen and understood that the heal<strong>in</strong>g of an<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividual on the Sabbath po<strong>in</strong>ted to the heal<strong>in</strong>g of the entire nation<br />
on the Sabbath, the seventh 1,000-year period; they would<br />
have seen and understood that this heal<strong>in</strong>g of the nation would<br />
follow God’s work of redemption, occurr<strong>in</strong>g throughout six preced<strong>in</strong>g<br />
days, occurr<strong>in</strong>g throughout 6,000 preced<strong>in</strong>g years; and,<br />
rather than accus<strong>in</strong>g Christ of violat<strong>in</strong>g the Sabbath, they would<br />
have seen and understood that this was the correct day for Him to<br />
perform signs of this nature.<br />
<strong>The</strong>y would have known that Jesus was deal<strong>in</strong>g with that which<br />
would occur “<strong>in</strong> that day,” on the Sabbath:<br />
“And <strong>in</strong> that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and<br />
the eyes of the bl<strong>in</strong>d shall see…”<br />
“<strong>The</strong>n [<strong>in</strong> that day] the eyes of the bl<strong>in</strong>d shall be opened, and the<br />
ears of the deaf shall be unstopped” (Isa. 29:18a; 35:5).
