Vans for the
Memories
BERLIN Summer has returned to the
German capital, where the world’s fi rst
indoor caravan park, Hüttenpalast
(meaning “cottage palace”), is helping
visitors enjoy the great outdoors indoors.
Located in the production hall of a
disused vacuum-cleaner factory in the
old industrial Neukölln district, this quirky
hotel has caravans and cabins instead
of rooms, and communal living spaces
complete with swings and “trees”, just like
an outdoor caravan park.
Owners Silke Lorenzen and
Sarah Vollmer say they wanted to
invoke the very German feeling of
Schrebergartenglück (meaning “the joy
of spending some time in a small garden
plot in the middle of many other small
garden plots”) and retain the architecture
of the original building, while creating “a
space where people actually meet each
other”. Van rental starts at €40 a night.
Peep Sea Show
TEL AVIV More than 1,000 naked people spent the day
frolicking in the Dead Sea recently and all for a good
cause. Photographer Spencer Tunick, who is known for
his use of mass nudes, planned his latest shoot to raise
awareness of dwindling water levels. Let’s hope it wasn’t
too chilly. spencertunick.com
