when i have spare time I stroll from my neighbourhood in
the 10th arrondissement to the Marais quarter – home to
one of the studios where I teach Ashtanga yoga – rather
than take the metro.
Starting from place de La République, I opt for rue du
Temple, and when it’s sunny I stop and read in the square
du Temple, a small park with an exotic pond. Here you’re
actually allowed to walk on the lawn – a rarity in Paris!
For a bite to eat I go to Le Marché des Enfants Rouges at
39 rue de Bretagne, a fantastic international food hall that’s
far from the madding crowd. It’s family oriented and ideal
for lazy Sunday brunches.
I then whizz past the galleries and design shops on rue
Charlot and rejoin rue du Temple, graced by the ancient
green door of the Musée d’art et d’histoire du Judaïsme. This
is the authentic heart of the Marais, a slice of medieval Paris.
It contrasts nicely with the buzzing area surrounding the
nearby Centre Pompidou on rue Rambuteau – brimming
with great musicians and dancers, it’s always a treat.
Ma promenade à Paris
Yoga teacher Laurence Gay puts Marie-Noëlle Bauer through her paces as they whirl
through the city’s historic but lively Marais district
