92 metropolitan London’s favourite art fair descends on Regent’s Park this month. And with another stellar line-up, not to mention ambitious expansion plans for 2012, Frieze’s star is clearly in the ascendant, says Clodagh Kinsella La Frieze grandit Regent’s Park accueille ce mois-ci le salon artistique favori de Londres. Clodagh Kinsella explique pourquoi affiche prestigieuse et ambitieux projets d’expansion pour 2012 dessinent à la Frieze un avenir radieux among the phalanx of critics, collectors and art fans fl ocking to this year’s Frieze, it won’t just be visitor numbers, sales or the state of contemporary art that’s generating gossip. With Art Basel now boasting a majority stakehold in the growing Art Hong Kong (ART HK), its main rival Frieze has announced two new fairs – Frieze New York and Frieze Masters – that are sure to up the ante. Launched in 2003 by frieze magazine publishers Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover, Frieze has become synonymous with London and edgy contemporary art. So is it fair to call this a risky departure? “It’s defi nitely an expansion of the remit of what Frieze is,” concedes Slotover, keen to downplay any drama. “But we think, in a way, that the core of Frieze is still the same throughout.” Frieze Masters, a sister fair launching during next year’s Frieze, will deal in 20th-century entrées, ventes, marché de l’art contemporain...
