Our trip to the Alps gave us the chance to experience the fascinating, and for
us largely unknown, beauty of the Écrins National Park in the southern part of
the French Alps. Trekking through this rugged, alpine landscape, you can almost
smell the Mediterranean as you cross the summery glaciers. The area removes
you so far from civilisation that it gives you the chance to take a deep look inside
yourself. For us, there is nowhere as powerful as the mountains. The air is fresh
and invigorating; the landscape is dominated by clear and sharp contours and
the heavens are almost within reach. The mountains can help put things back
into perspective. Up here, we may be tolerated as brief visitors, but nature re -
mains firmly centre stage.
We took the packs from our newly developed Summer 12 alpine rucksack series
to the Alps with us. Amongst them, the ultra-light ACCELERATE PACK (see
page 278). Weighing in at just 520 g and with an innovative new access system,
this pack represents state-of-the art rucksack engineering. And the SCANDIUM
JACKET (pages 15 and 28), which sets new standards for performance and com -
fort with its TEXAPORE HYPROOF O 3 membrane. This remarkable shell fabric
can withstand an incredible water column pressure of 40 metres and is also
ex tremely breathable, with an MVTR of 30,000 g/m 2 /24 h. These values are
achieved by the use of a new type of catalytic technology, which is in cor -
porated into the membrane. We think we can rightly claim that, for us, this is
AS WATERPROOF AS IT GETS!
