pinch bars, wrenchers, chains, tool boxes; extra bolts, <strong>and</strong> pokers are<br />

A complete system of st<strong>and</strong>ard gauges, male <strong>and</strong> female, is used<br />
for finishing all the work, so as to make it practically interchangeable.<br />
A special department is devoted to the manufacture <strong>and</strong> care of the<br />

The heads arid nuts of bolts are made of the same size, so that<br />
the same wrench will take :either, <strong>and</strong> the size of .finished heads <strong>and</strong><br />
nuts are'made the same as those which are rough. The system of<br />
threads used is the Franklin Institute U. S. St<strong>and</strong>ard. The holes<br />
into which bolts are fitted are invariably reamed with rearners made<br />
<strong>and</strong> kept to, the st<strong>and</strong>ard, size. / .<br />

made of charcoal iron, riveted with £ inch rivets, <strong>and</strong> strongly braced<br />
<strong>and</strong>. securely fastened to "the tender frame. The sides of the tank<br />
are made of No. 8,. <strong>and</strong> the top <strong>and</strong> bottom of No. 6 iron. The<br />
sheets are. secured together 'at the corners with angle iron. The<br />
legs of the tank are rounded at the front end, <strong>and</strong> taper back to the<br />
body of the tank. A suitable man-hole is put on the top of the tank<br />
at the back end.' The front end of each leg of the tank has a valve<br />

for letting, the water into the feed-pipes, which are connected to the<br />
tank by rubber hose attached underneath the tender valves. A cock<br />
is put into the tank near the bottom, <strong>and</strong> furnished with apiece of<br />

is made of three, longitudinal, two end, two bolster, <strong>and</strong> one center<br />
transverse timber of well-seasoned oak. The outside timbers arc<br />
framed <strong>and</strong> fastened,together at the corners with strong castings.<br />
The bolsters are also attached to the outside timbers with castings,<br />
<strong>and</strong> the whole bolted together with i inch transverse rods, running<br />
through the frame from one side to the other; Cast iron brackets on<br />
the outside of the frames carry a timber, on which the tank rests.<br />
The flooring is i-J- inch thick, made of pine, <strong>and</strong> securely spiked<br />
down. A strong draw casting is attached to . the frame at each<br />
end. The front end is coupled to the engine with a heavy bar. On<br />
each side of the bar are two heavy safety chains connecting the<br />

Each have, four cast iron plate wheels. The axles have outside bearings.<br />
The front truck has-a center, <strong>and</strong> the back truck side bearings. •<br />
The frames are.made of an approved plan, of the best material <strong>and</strong><br />
•workmanship, <strong>and</strong> have check chains on each corner of both trucks-<br />
The back trucks have brakes, with a wheel <strong>and</strong> shaft in a convenient<br />
position for setting the brakes.<br />

The engine <strong>and</strong> tender each have one coat of priming, one of<br />
filling, <strong>and</strong> one of body Cplor,'<strong>and</strong> then ornamented, arid finished with<br />
