The role <strong>of</strong> “fibril enhancer” <strong>of</strong> ethanol under most <strong>of</strong> the<br />

conditions is contrary to what is observed when already-formed<br />

fibrils are incubated in its presence. For example, it has been<br />

shown that insulin <strong>and</strong> β-lactoglobulin fibrils disassemble upon<br />

incubation in DMSO <strong>and</strong> ethanol, respectively, as a result <strong>of</strong> a<br />

weakening <strong>of</strong> hydrogen bonding inside the fibrils. 73,74 consequence <strong>of</strong> changes in the energy l<strong>and</strong>scape <strong>of</strong> the<br />

aggregation process.<br />
