understanding of the bigger picture.<br />

The LMC model for midwifery practice in New Zealand offers women choices and a<br />

voice in their child birth experience, however there appears to be no New Zealand<br />

research studies on the experiences of coordinators working in tertiary hosptals. This<br />

study will uncover and interpret the lived experiences of five delivery suite coordinator<br />

midwives. Although this study cannot be generalised, it is anticipated it will offer new<br />

insight into their roles for readers of this study. In particular it is anticipated this study<br />

will provide an increased understanding for professionals who are working with<br />

coordinator midwives in delivery suite settings.<br />

This Research<br />

My research explores “Midwives’ experiences working as coordinators/charge midwives<br />

in tertiary hospital delivery suite settings: A phenomenological study”. I wanted to listen<br />

to the stories coordinators chose to share during their interviews and to uncover meaning<br />

from their experiences which would offer them ‘a voice’ within the New Zealand<br />

midwifery profession.<br />
