Overview of the Thesis<br />

Chapter Two will provide the contextual basis for this study with the literature review.<br />

This comprises research accessed from journals, textbooks, national project management<br />

reports, conference presentations and intranet data base research.<br />

Chapter Three deals with my choice of methodology. My study was informed by the<br />

hermeneutic philosophical approach of Heidegger (1927/1962). I utilised van Manen’s<br />

(1990) work to guide me in my method of interpretation. This chapter describes the<br />

ethical approval, protection of participants, analysis, trustworthiness and the general<br />

background to this study.<br />

Chapters Four, Five and Six are the data analysis chapters:<br />

Chapter Four is entitled “The ‘Performing Art’ of Leadership” and is divided into four<br />

sub-sections. Coordinators each described similar feelings about their working<br />

environment and the roles they play within their workspace. The titles of these four sub-<br />

sections are: Being the ‘Hub’, In the Eye of the Storm, The Role Plays of Leadership,<br />

Leaving Work Behind and Moving Forward.<br />

Chapter Five is entitled “Lived Time”. Chronologically, time ticks by at a steady rate but<br />

within the context of the tertiary deivery suite setting it becomes different things at<br />

different times for coordinators. There are five sub-sections in this chapter which are<br />
