The department is equipped with modern communication

services, including “Enhanced 911” and a system linking the

patrol cars to police, state and national computer banks using incar

terminals. Other equipment used includes: radar units, breathtesting

instruments and crime suspect composite drawing kits.

In addition, the department is a member of the Northern Illinois

Police Crime Laboratory, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System,

the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (a drug

enforcement group composed of officers from state, county and

several municipal departments), the Lake County Major Crime

Task Force (an investigative task force providing experienced

criminalists and evidence technicians), and the Lake County

Gang Task Force (a multi-jurisdictional response team consisting
