In recent years, <strong>Deerfield</strong> has seen significant growth in the<br />

business and commercial community. Similarly, the <strong>Deerfield</strong><br />

Police Department has also grown to meet the increased demands<br />

for service.<br />

The Police Department was recognized as a national accredited<br />

agency by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement<br />

Agencies (CALEA) in July, 2005 and reaccredited in 2008. The<br />

department had to comply with 446 written CALEA standards<br />

which cover every aspect of law enforcement policies, procedures,<br />

practices and operations.<br />

The Police Department consists of a total of 54 employees; 39<br />

police officers – one Chief, two Deputy Chiefs, nine Supervisors,<br />

27 Officers – and 15 civilians, including eight Dispatchers, and<br />

two Social Workers. The Police Department communication<br />

center also provides dispatch services for the <strong>Bannockburn</strong> Police<br />

Department.<br />

The department is equipped with modern communication<br />

services, including “Enhanced 911” and a system linking the<br />

patrol cars to police, state and national computer banks using incar<br />

terminals. Other equipment used includes: radar units, breathtesting<br />

instruments and crime suspect composite drawing kits.<br />

In addition, the department is a member of the Northern Illinois<br />

Police Crime Laboratory, the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System,<br />

the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (a drug<br />

enforcement group composed of officers from state, county and<br />

several municipal departments), the Lake County Major Crime<br />

Task Force (an investigative task force providing experienced<br />

criminalists and evidence technicians), and the Lake County<br />

Gang Task Force (a multi-jurisdictional response team consisting<br />

of trained gang specialists).<br />

The mission for every member of the <strong>Deerfield</strong> Police Department<br />

is to consistently seek and find ways to affirmatively promote,<br />

preserve and deliver a feeling of security, safety and quality service<br />

to members of our community.<br />

The <strong>Bannockburn</strong> Police Department maintains a staff of seven<br />

full-time and seven part-time officers that provide 24-hour police<br />

protection and service to our residents. The department also has one<br />

state certified German Shepherd used for drug detection, locating<br />

lost and missing individuals and criminal suspects throughout Lake<br />

County. The department is recognized by the Illinois Traffic Safety<br />

Challenge as having one of the best traffic programs in the state.<br />

The department also offers child car seat inspections and Railroad<br />

safety instruction through “Operation Lifesaver.” <strong>Bannockburn</strong><br />

officers work continuously on fund raising events that help contribute<br />

to the Illinois Special Olympics, our holiday Shop-With-A-Cop<br />

program, and our DARE program that reaches into the 5th through<br />

8th grades. Programs involving our youth are a top priority. When<br />

a serious crime or critical incident occurs, the department belongs<br />

to several multi-agency teams that can provide the department<br />

with immediate assistance; NIPAS, Emergency Services Team,<br />

Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Lake County Major Crash<br />

Assistance Team, Lake County MEG (drug enforcement) and the<br />

Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Lab.<br />

Created October 31, 2001, the <strong>Riverwoods</strong> Police Department is a fullservice,<br />

twenty-four hour agency, comprised of 16 full and part-time<br />

officers and 2 records administrators. The Department is equipped<br />

with the latest technology, including Automatic External Defibrillators<br />

(AED) in every squad car, “enhanced 911”, and access to local, state<br />

and national databases through in-car computers.<br />

The Department is prepared to respond to critical incidents and is<br />

supported through memberships to the Lake County Major Crimes<br />

Task Force (comprised of experienced investigators and crime scene<br />

technicians), the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory,<br />

the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Illinois Law<br />

Enforcement Alarm System (Mutual Aid).<br />

The mission of the <strong>Riverwoods</strong> Police Dept. is to enhance the quality<br />

of life while providing a safe and secure environment for all persons<br />

within the Village. Members are dedicated to acting in partnership<br />

with the community to provide professional, high quality service.<br />
