In the previous stage, the team defined<br />

desired performance in specific and<br />

measurable terms. Using those same<br />

indicators and measures, assess what<br />

knowledge, skills, and attitudes<br />

providers currently possess (the current,<br />

or actual, performance).<br />

N Develop assessment tools,<br />

N Collect the data,<br />

N Compile the data,<br />

N Analyze the data,<br />

N Conduct a cause analysis, and<br />

N Identify possible performance<br />

improvement solutions.<br />

Steps to Conduct a TNA<br />

Step 1: Identify the problem.<br />

To identify the problem, the desired<br />

performance must be determined and<br />

compared to the actual performance.<br />

Step 2: Decide on methodology.<br />

Who or what should be assessed?<br />

Sample size? What methods should be<br />

used?<br />

N Analyze answers to personal<br />

questionnaires.<br />

N Interview key persons.<br />

N Conduct focused workshops with<br />

staff in charge <strong>of</strong> providers/facilities<br />

where training will be conducted.<br />

N Review recent key publications.<br />
