Develop tools for a TNA<br />
Developing appropriate tools is a<br />
very important step in the process <strong>of</strong><br />
designing a TNA. A good tool will<br />
accurately measure what should be<br />
measured. Depending on the objectives<br />
<strong>of</strong> the needs analysis, an appropriate<br />
tool must be selected and/or created.<br />
Such tools might include:<br />
N An interview with a health care<br />
provider/facility manager/client,<br />
N Questions for focus group<br />
discussion,<br />
N Case study,<br />
N Checklists for clinical observation or<br />
record keeping, and<br />
N Sample forms for facility/ equipment<br />
assessment or inventory.<br />

Group work (30 min.):<br />
N Pass out handout Px Handouts 2.8:<br />
TNA Example 1, 2.9: TNA Example 2,<br />
and 2.10: TNA Example 3.<br />
N Divide Px into 3 groups<br />
N Give each group one Px handout, ask<br />
them to read the tool, discuss it, and<br />
answer the following questions (15<br />
min.):<br />
N What is the tool used for?<br />
N What aspects <strong>of</strong> KAS does the tool<br />
assess (knowledge/ skills /attitudes)?<br />
N Each group will present for 5 minutes.<br />
Group work (70 min.):<br />
The trainer should:<br />
N Divide Px into 3 groups.<br />
N Ask Px to develop tools for TNA.<br />
Groups 1 and 2: Tool for knowledge<br />
assessment<br />
UNIT 2/OBJECTIVE #4<br />
Group 3: Survey form for facility review<br />
N Allow Px to work for 50 min. and to<br />
write a summary <strong>of</strong> their tool on flip<br />
chart paper.<br />
N Each group presents ideas and receives<br />
feedback ( 20 min.).<br />
