Brachionus is the dominant<br />

rotifer in Gunston Cove and<br />

the trends in total rotifers<br />

are mirrored in those in<br />

Brachionus (Figure 124).<br />

The LOWESS line for<br />

Brachionus suggested about<br />

200/L in 2003, down from<br />

400/L in 1999, but higher<br />

than 100/L in 1990. A<br />

statistically significant<br />

linear increase was<br />

indicated over the entire<br />

study period (Table 12).<br />

In the river the LOWESS line<br />

for Brachionus suggested a<br />

continued decline to about<br />

40/L, below the peak of 80/L<br />

in 1999 (Figure 125).<br />

However, values seemed to<br />

fall into two groups: above<br />

200/L and below 20/L. A<br />

marginally significant linear<br />

increase was indicated over<br />

the entire study period (Table<br />

12).<br />
