PLATINUM 331
tetramminochloroplatinate, [Cr(NHg)4(H2O)ClJPtCl6, in brownish-red, rhombic
crystals by treating a soln. of chromic chloroaquotetramminochloride with hydrochloroplatinic
acid. S. M. Jorgensen prepared chromic chloropentamminochloroplatinate,
[Cr(NH3)6Cl]PtCl6, in yellowish-brown rectangular prisms, by
treating a soln. of chromic chloropentamminochloride -with hydrochloroplatinic acid ;
and chromic hexamminochloroplatinate, [Cr(NH3)6]Cl.PtCl6.2£H20, as yellow
needles by the action of hydrochloroplatinic acid on a soln. of the hexamminochloride.
The salt loses all its water in 24 hrs. at 100°, and it is decomposed by
cold water or dil. hydrochloric acid to form [Cr(NH3)6]2Cl4.PtCl6.2H2O, which
forms dark orange, prismatic or rhombic crystals, which lose a mol. of water at
100°. If the hexamminochloride is treated with sodium chloroplatinate in aq.
soln., orange-yellow, six-sided plates or prisms of [Cr(NH3)6J2(PtCl6)3.6H20, are
formed. The salt is almost insoluble in water, and loses all its combined water in
24 hrs. at 100°—vide chromates, 11. 60, 15 ; and dichromates, 11. 60, 16.
W. J. Sell prepared complex chromic earbamldochloroplatinate, 2CrCl3.PtCl4.l2CO(NHzfz.
2H2O ; P. Pfeiffer and P. Koch, chromic trans-dlchloroquaterethylenediaminechloroplatinate,
[Cr enaCl2]J8(PtCl8). 12H2O ; P. Pfeiffer and T. G. Lando, chromic cis-dichloroquaterethylenediamfnechloroplatinate,
(Cr on2Cl2]a(PtCl8). 12H2O ; R. K. Weinland and P. 13inkelacker,
chromic hexacetatodihydroxychloroplatinate, as a tetrahydrcUe,, 2[Cr3(OH)2(C2H3Oa)8]PtCl8.
