The absorpti<strong>on</strong> spectrum of the vapour was studied by J. C. McLennan <strong>and</strong><br />

co-workers, G. D. Liveing <strong>and</strong> J. Dewar, W. F. Meggers <strong>and</strong> O. Laporte, <strong>and</strong><br />

C. A. v<strong>on</strong> Welsbach. According to J. Formanek, the absorpti<strong>on</strong> spectrum of soln.<br />

of platinum salts is not characteristic in the sense of being used for qualitative<br />

tests. There are absorpti<strong>on</strong> b<strong>and</strong>s in the blue <strong>and</strong> violet. Aq. soln. of potassium<br />

chloroplatinate give a pale b<strong>and</strong> about 486O, <strong>and</strong> b<strong>and</strong>s in the blue <strong>and</strong> violet.<br />

Platinum salts do not react with tincture of alkanna. The colour <strong>and</strong> spectra of<br />
