PLATINUM 381
of sodium hydroxide in 0-IiVT-NaOH, has the mol. conductivity, /x, for soln. with a
mol of sodium dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, Na2Pt(OH)2Br4, in v litres, at 25° :
v . . 32 64 128 256 512 1024
/x . . 105-3 109-2 114-9 118-5 122-9 125-6
where /x1024—/X32=203 in accord with the value for the neutral salt of a dibasic
acid. Dark brown silver dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, Ag2Pt(OH)2Br4, is
obtained by adding a small excess of silver nitrate to a soln. of platinic bromide,
washing the precipitate with cold water, and drying it at 100°. Neither by the
action of barium hydroxide nor carbonate on an aq. soln. of platinic bromide was
it possible to prepare barium dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, BaPt(OH)2Br4.
A dark red precipitate of mercuric dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, HgPt(OH)2Br4,
is produced when mercuric acetate is added to an aq. soln. of platinic bromide.
The silver, mercury, and thallous salts were also discussed by F. ReifF. The
brown precipitate of thallous dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, Tl2Pt(OH)2Br4,
is formed when thallous acetate is added to an aq. soln. of platinic bromide
with lead acetate, dark brown lead dihydroxytetrabromoplatinate, PbPt(OH)2Br4,
is precipitated. S. M. Jorgensen obtained chromic hydroxydecamminobromoplatinate,
[ Cr2(OH) (NH3) 10 J2Br4(PtBr6)34H20, in salmon-red, four-sided crystals,
by the action of hydrobromoplatinic acid on the thiocyanatobromide. JJ. A.
Tschugaeff prepared platinic bromopentamminobromide, [Pt(NHs)5BrJBr3, in
yellow prisms ; and platinic chloropentamminobromide, [Pt(NH3)5Cl]Br3, in pale
yellow, sparingly soluble needles.
P. T. Gl eve obtained platinic dibromohexammmo-/x-diaminochloride,
[Br(NHg)3Pt(NH2)2Pt(NHg)3BrJCl4, by the action of an excess of hydrochloric
acid on the corresponding nitrate. The yellowish-white crystals can be dried over
sulphuric acid or in vacuo. P. T. CIeve prepared platinic dichlorotetramminobromide,
[Pt(NH3)4Cl2JBr2, by the action of ammonium bromide on the corresponding
nitrate ; and M. Raewsky, by the action of bromine on a boiling soln. of
platinous tetramminobromide. The orange-yellow, crystalline powder is sparingly
soluble in water ; fuming hydrochloric acid converts it into [Pt(NH3)4ClBrJCl2 ;
and silver nitrate precipitates silver chloride and bromide from the hot soln.
Likewise platinic dibromotetramminochloride, [Pt(NHg)4Br2JCl2, was produced
by the action of ammonium chloride on the corresponding nitrate. The salts were
studied by H. D. K. Drew and co-workers. P. T. Cleve obtained platinic chlorobromotetramminochloride,
[Pt(NH3)4ClBrJCl2, by the action of an excess of
fuming hydrochloric acid on the dichlorotetramminochromide, on the dibromotetramminochloride,
or on the hydroxybromotetramminonitrate, and drying the
yellow powder over sulphuric acid, or at 100°. IJ. A. Tschugaeff prepared yellowcrystalline
platinic amidobromotetramminobromide, [Pt(NH3J4(NH2)BrJBr2 ;
and platinic amidochlorotetramminobromide, [Pt(NH3)4(NH2)CljBr2.
A. Werner described platinic dibromobispropylenediaminochloride, rPt{(CsH6)(NH2)2}a-
Br2]Cl2 ; platinic dlbromopropylenediaminedlamminochloride, [Pt(NU3)a{C3H6(NH2)a}Br2]Cl!!;
S. O. Hedin, platinic dichlorodlbromobispyridine, [Pt(C5H6N)2CJ2Br2I ; C. Enebuske, platinic
diehlorodibromoblsmethylsulphine, [Pt{(CHs)2S}2Cl2Br2] ; C. W. Blomstrand, and M. Woibull,
platinic dichlorodibromobisetnylsulphine,rPt{(C2H:6)2S}aCl2Br2] j C. Rudeli us, platinic dichlorodibromobispropylsulphine,
[Pt{(CaH7)aS}aClaBra]; H. Londahl, andM. Woibull, platinicdiehlorodlbromoblsbutylSUlphine,
[Pt{(C4Ha)aS}aClaBr2], with iso- and secondary butyl ; J. Petren,
platinic dichlorodibromoblsethylselenlne, [Pt{(CaH6)2Se}aClaBra], platinic ehlorotrlbromoblsethylselenlne,
Pt{(CaH5)aSe}aClBr8], and platinic dieblorodibromoethylsuphinethylselenine,
[Pt{(CaH:5)aS>{(CaH:B)aSe>ClaBra] ; and A. Cahours and H. Gal, platinic dichlorodibromobisethylphosphine,
[Pt{P(CaH8)a>sClaBra] ; and A. Rosenheim and W. Levy, platinic
tetrabromobismethylphosphate, [Pt{OP(OCH,),}2Br4] ; platinic tetrabromobisethylphosphate,
PtBr4{PO{OC,HB),}8 ; and platinic dibromodiehloroethylphosphate, PtCl2Br2.PO(OC2H6)3.
G. Gore reported a complex silver fluobromoplatinate, nAgBr.PtF4, is formed
when silver fluoride in an atm. of bromine is melted in a platinum crucible. L. Pitkin
reported a series of potassium chlorobromoplatinates, K2PtClnBr6^, to be
