An educational psychologist is someone who has been registered in terms <strong>of</strong> Act. No.<br />
56 <strong>of</strong> 1974. Ideally, he has five consecutive years <strong>of</strong> training in psychology, has served<br />
an internship <strong>of</strong> 18 months at an approved institution and is capable <strong>of</strong> using<br />
diagnostic tests and making corrections in terms <strong>of</strong> diagnoses that have already been<br />
made.<br />
The educationist (orthodidactics) has qualifications as laid down by an appropriate<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional council. His functions include the interpretation <strong>of</strong> scholastic data <strong>of</strong> a<br />
diagnostic nature (or psychological reports), the development <strong>of</strong> didactical<br />
programmes, didactical evaluation, consultation with the teacher and remedial teacher<br />
in particular and the implementation <strong>of</strong> educational and remedial programmes.<br />
The School social worker is registered according to Act No. 110 <strong>of</strong> 1978 and is<br />
responsible for family guidance, the socialization <strong>of</strong> the child and for dealing with<br />
problems that may arise in the child's transition from mainstream to special education<br />
or vice versa.<br />
The above is merely a brief and preliminary exposition <strong>of</strong> some <strong>of</strong> the main functions<br />
<strong>of</strong> the functionaries mentioned. In the light <strong>of</strong> this the following categories <strong>of</strong><br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional personnel are proposed for a fully developed SEG (Urbani 1981) on a full<br />
time basis :<br />
