6.6 SUMMARY OF RESULTS<br />

The very low proportion of intermediate care wom<strong>en</strong> actually cared for in a maternity<br />

with a MIC service repres<strong>en</strong>ts one of the most important piece of information of this<br />

chapter as well as the variability of this proportion betwe<strong>en</strong> provinces. Information that<br />

need to be linked to the longer distances that the wom<strong>en</strong> need to travel to reach a MIC<br />

unit in some provinces and the varying rate of premature babies cared for in MIC<br />

maternities betwe<strong>en</strong> provinces.<br />

Table 44 summarizes some of the important information gathered in this chapter about<br />

the intermediate care activity of the MIC-services.<br />

Description of the column:<br />

• Column 1 is the total number of wom<strong>en</strong> that delivered in that hospital<br />

• Column 2 is the number of MIC-beds in that hospital<br />

• Column 3 is the Ratio MIC beds/M beds<br />

• Column 4 is the proportion of wom<strong>en</strong> theoretically requiring intermediate<br />

care in that hospital<br />

• Column 5 is the proportion of wom<strong>en</strong> theoretically requiring intermediate<br />

care divided by the amount of MIC-beds in that hospital<br />

• Column 6 is the proportion of transfers to that hospital divided by the amount<br />

of MIC-beds in that hospital<br />

• Column 7 is the total amount of transfers in that hospital<br />

• Column 8 is the amount of intra-uterine transfers in that hospital<br />

• Column 9 is the number of premature neonates (
