This map clearly reflects the organizational structure of the Belgian perinatal care. Due<br />
to the P* functions, the care for high-risk mothers and baby’s is c<strong>en</strong>tred on referral<br />
MIC-services, mainly situated in big cities ( province’s capitals). Wom<strong>en</strong> in the northern<br />
part of the province of ‘Antwerp<strong>en</strong>’ and ‘Limburg’ and in the southern part of ‘West-<br />
Vlaander<strong>en</strong>’ travel around 40 km to a MIC-service.<br />
As se<strong>en</strong> in figure 9, the Southern part of Belgium is also quite ‘red’, the mean distance<br />
travelled to a MIC-service by wom<strong>en</strong> living in the province of ‘Hainaut’, and Namur’ is<br />
40 km. The distance travelled by wom<strong>en</strong> living in Province ‘Luxembourg’ varies from 40<br />
to 160 km.<br />
B. Mode of deliveries<br />
Table 18 shows the detailed distribution of deliveries betwe<strong>en</strong> the two types of<br />
maternities.<br />
