Her 1 - Heritage Resource Protection<br />
Protect heritage resources for cultural and scientific value and public benefit:<br />
September 2005<br />
• Within this planning cycle document all known significant cultural properties to identify any<br />
activity that does or has the potential to adversely affect, or does not complement the site.<br />
Develop measures to mitigate the adverse effects or impacts.<br />
• Use partnerships to implement site management plans for heritage resource sites, focusing<br />
on<br />
those sites with<br />
recognized significance or are at risk from public or land use effects.<br />
• Evaluate historic sites for appropriate management. Develop site management plans for<br />
noteworthy heritage resources wherever they occur.<br />

Her 2 - Public Involvement Program<br />
Provide public involvement programs for the public to partner in the stewardship of heritage<br />
resource sites:<br />
• Develop public involvement programs to foster partnership in heritage resource stewardship<br />
to aid in identifying and evaluating heritage sites.<br />
• Work with the local communities to understand, document, preserve,<br />
and interpret the<br />
national forest history for the public. Develop opportunities for partnerships with the public<br />
to maintain<br />
and reuse historic heritage resources.<br />
Her 3 - <strong>Forest</strong>-wide Heritage Inventory<br />
Increase knowledge of the occurrence, distribution, and diversity of site types for heritage<br />
resources on the national forest:<br />
• Increase the heritage resource database through the survey of nonproject acreage. Prioritize<br />
those places where the percentage of uninventoried high heritage resource sensitivity acres<br />
exceeds 50 percent of the total high heritage resource sensitivity for the place.<br />
