The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree program in humanities is an interdisciplinary<br />

program <strong>of</strong> liberal studies with an emphasis on literature,<br />

history, philosophy and the fine arts. As a study <strong>of</strong> the thoughts,<br />

actions and values <strong>of</strong> human beings, along with a comprehensive<br />

background in science, mathematics and computers, the humanities<br />

major has broad applicability. As a result <strong>of</strong> the ample allotment<br />

<strong>of</strong> electives, students may adapt the program to individual needs<br />

and interests. The major prepares graduates for a wide variety <strong>of</strong><br />

careers, including teaching, law, government service, the military<br />

and editing. Students wishing to pursue graduate study will be prepared<br />

to enter programs in their respective areas <strong>of</strong> concentration,<br />

such as history, literature, philosophy or law.<br />

Candidates for a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Humanities require a total <strong>of</strong><br />

about a significant issue in the humanities.<br />

The Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Humanities – Prelaw <strong>of</strong>fers the courses<br />

needed to meet the entrance requirements <strong>of</strong> law schools.<br />

Undergraduates selecting this degree program are able to gain a<br />

thorough grounding in a variety <strong>of</strong> academic disciplines applicable<br />

to graduate study in law. Students work with the prelaw adviser to<br />

select a course <strong>of</strong> study customized for their own needs and interests.<br />

A student contemplating admission to a law school should<br />

consult the prelaw adviser early in the program.<br />

Degree Requirements<br />

Candidates for the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts in Humanities – Prelaw require<br />

a minimum <strong>of</strong> 122 credit hours as outlined in the following requirements<br />

and sample curriculum. Any program plan selected in consultation<br />

with the student’s adviser must include QEP-designated<br />

research in an agreed area to begin during the spring term <strong>of</strong> the<br />

junior year. Students must complete a minimum <strong>of</strong> 39 credit hours<br />

<strong>of</strong> advanced coursework (3xxx-level and above) chosen from upperlevel<br />

courses in humanities or psychology.<br />
