PSY 5554 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: PSYCHODYNAMIC (3 credits).<br />

Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> psychodynamic approaches, and case<br />

conceptualization and treatment planning from a psychodynamic perspective. A lab<br />

component incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques, emphasizing the practical<br />

application <strong>of</strong> psychodynamic intervention procedures. Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5555 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: HUMANISTIC/EXISTENTIAL<br />

(3 credits). Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> humanistic/existential<br />

approaches, and conceptualization and treatment planning from a humanistic/existential<br />

perspective. A lab component incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques,<br />

emphasizing the practical application <strong>of</strong> humanistic/existential intervention procedures.<br />

Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5556 PSYCHOTHERAPY MODELS: FAMILY APPROACHES (3 credits).<br />

Includes theory and conceptual foundations <strong>of</strong> family treatment approaches, and case<br />

conceptualization and treatment planning from a family perspective. A lab component<br />

incorporates discussion and modeling <strong>of</strong> techniques, emphasizing the practical application<br />

<strong>of</strong> family intervention procedures. Prerequisites: PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5565 CHILD DISORDERS AND PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Studies<br />

the nature, etiology, characteristics, assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> emotional, social and<br />

intellectual problems <strong>of</strong> children.<br />

PSY 5570 MULTICULTURAL PSYCHOTHERAPY (3 credits). Provides an<br />

applied clinical overview <strong>of</strong> the major theoretical models <strong>of</strong> multicultural psychotherapy.<br />

Develops skills in using a multicultural orientation to guide the diagnosis,<br />

assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> psychological disorders. Prerequisites: PSY 5120.<br />

PSY 5591 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 1 (1 credit). Discusses pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and<br />

standards in psychology. Required for all first-year clinical students.<br />

PSY 5592 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 2 (1 credit). Discussion and implementation <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and standards in psychology and one’s own pr<strong>of</strong>essional development.<br />

(Required for all second-year clinical students.) Prerequisites: PSY 5591.<br />

PSY 5593 SEMINAR IN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND ETHICAL<br />

PRINCIPLES IN PSYCHOLOGY 3 (1 credit). Discusses pr<strong>of</strong>essional ethics and<br />

standards in psychology. Required for all third-year clinical students. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5592.<br />

PSY 5595 PRACTICUM (1-6 credits). Supervised clinical work in an approved<br />

on- or <strong>of</strong>f-campus setting. Placement at sites is determined by the Office <strong>of</strong> Clinical<br />

Training. Experiences will vary among sites to include assessment, intervention,<br />

cumulative and supervisory experiences. (Requirement: Clinical director approval and<br />

prerequisite course.) Prerequisites: PSY 5002, PSY 5502, PSY 5527, PSY 5542.<br />

PSY 5596 SUPERVISED CLINICAL EXPERIENCE (1 credit). Experience in<br />

clinical settings, providing supervised psychological services to specialized populations.<br />

Seen as a pre-practicum experience, therefore does not fulfill supervised<br />

practical experience requirements <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />

PSY 5899 FINAL SEMESTER THESIS (0-2 credits). Variable registration<br />

for thesis completion after satisfaction <strong>of</strong> minimum registration requirements.<br />

(Requirements: Accepted petition to graduate and approval by Office <strong>of</strong> Graduate<br />

Programs.)<br />

PSY 5999 THESIS (3-6 credits). Includes the preparation and submission <strong>of</strong> a<br />

research thesis, the quality <strong>of</strong> which is judged acceptable by the School <strong>of</strong> Psychology<br />

and Graduate School. Prerequisites: PSY 5102.<br />

PSY 6102 FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY (2 credits). The interaction <strong>of</strong> psychology<br />

and the law; emphasis on the psychologist as an expert witness and as consultant to<br />

attorneys and the court; and an evaluation <strong>of</strong> the rights <strong>of</strong> psychiatric patients under<br />

the law.<br />

PSY 6103 INTRODUCTION TO FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits).<br />

Application <strong>of</strong> the science and practice <strong>of</strong> psychology to questions and issues relating<br />

to law and the legal system. The role <strong>of</strong> psychology in the legal system, evaluation<br />

and assessment, expert testimony, consultation and training, mediation and conflict<br />

resolution, and research.<br />

PSY 6104 FUNDAMENTALS OF FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY (2 credits).<br />

Introduces the interaction <strong>of</strong> psychology and the legal system. Applies the methods,<br />

theories and concepts <strong>of</strong> psychology to the legal system and the law. Includes the<br />

courts, correctional and forensic mental health facilities, and judicial and legislative<br />

agencies.<br />

PSY 6105 CLINICAL FORENSIC ASSESSMENT (3 credits). Introduces the<br />

assessment tools necessary to respond to the needs <strong>of</strong> the law in criminal responsibility,<br />

psychopathy, psychopathology, competency to stand trial and assist counsel,<br />

substance abuse, future dangerousness, cognitive abilities and mitigating factors.<br />

Also examines the ethical requirements <strong>of</strong> the psychologist as an expert witness.<br />

(Requirement: Prerequisite course or instructor approval.) Prerequisites: PSY 6104.<br />

PSY 6198 SUPERVISED RESEARCH (1-3 credits). Directed research under the<br />

supervision <strong>of</strong> a member <strong>of</strong> the psychology faculty in a selected area <strong>of</strong> psychology.<br />

May be repeated for a maximum <strong>of</strong> nine credits.<br />

PSY 6199 INDEPENDENT RESEARCH IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits).<br />

Facilitates the graduate student research experience through guided interaction with<br />

a member <strong>of</strong> the faculty. Includes supervision and instruction for doctoral students<br />

in the formulation <strong>of</strong> research questions, data collection, analysis and preparation <strong>of</strong><br />

manuscript for publication. May be repeated for a total <strong>of</strong> six credits.<br />

PSY 6402 CHAOS THEORY IN ORGANIZATIONS (3 credits). Covers the<br />

application <strong>of</strong> nonlinear dynamics to work and organizations including recent advances<br />

in mathematics and experimental design, and integrates those topics into models<br />

<strong>of</strong> organizational change. Special emphasis on the role <strong>of</strong> nonlinear dynamics in<br />

creativity and innovation.<br />

PSY 6405 MULTIVARIATE STATISTICS (3 credits). Encourages students to use<br />

rigorous methodology in the study <strong>of</strong> organizational issues. Teaches multivariate statistical<br />

methods through the use <strong>of</strong> multiple computer exercises, keeping mathematical<br />

details to a minimum. Extensive coverage <strong>of</strong> both exploratory and confirmatory factor<br />

analysis.<br />

PSY 6408 CULTURAL SEMINAR IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits).<br />

Discusses cultural and multicultural issues in industrial/organizational psychology in a<br />

research seminar format. May be repeated with instructor’s permission.<br />

PSY 6409 CULTURAL RESEARCH APPLICATIONS IN I/O<br />

PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits). Supervised research in cultural applications to industrial/organizational<br />

psychology. Topics chosen by the student and supervisor. May be<br />

repeated with instructor’s permission.<br />

PSY 6420 ATTITUDES AND VALUES IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY (3 credits).<br />

Discusses the essential role <strong>of</strong> employee attitudes and values such as job satisfaction<br />

and organizational commitment on organizational performance, absenteeism and<br />

turnover. Emphasizes construct validation and survey methodology.<br />

PSY 6492 ADVANCED RESEARCH SEMINAR IN I/O PSYCHOLOGY<br />

(1 credit). Focuses on current research methods and their application by visiting<br />

faculty in various areas <strong>of</strong> industrial/organizational psychology, highlighting theoretical<br />

and practical issues in contemporary research design and analytical techniques.<br />

PSY 6493 CURRENT TOPICS IN INTERNATIONAL I/O PSYCHOLOGY<br />

(1 credit). Focuses on contemporary international issues introduced by visiting faculty<br />

in the area <strong>of</strong> industrial/organizational psychology. Highlights theoretical and practical<br />

issues in comparative and cross-cultural research and their application to the global<br />

business context. (Requirement: Department head approval.)<br />

PSY 6521 PSYCHODIAGNOSTICS (3 credits). Teaches students how to integrate<br />

historical, interview, behavioral observations and test data into a clear, accurate and<br />

effective psychological report. Weekly test batteries help the student maximally use<br />

all available data to address referred questions and cogently communicate results in<br />

written format. Prerequisites: PSY 5502, PSY 5521, PSY 5227.<br />

PSY 6522 NEUROPSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL<br />

ASSESSMENT (3 credits). Examines the neuroanatomical correlates <strong>of</strong> psychological<br />

functioning, including assessment and treatment techniques for neuropsychological<br />

disorders. Prerequisites: PSY 5105.<br />

PSY 6527 FUNDAMENTALS OF CLINICAL NEUROPSYCHOLOGY<br />

(3 credits). Introduces the guiding principles <strong>of</strong> brain-behavior interactions derived<br />

from the basic disciplines <strong>of</strong> psychology, neuroanatomy and neuropathology. Provides<br />

the scientific basis for neuropsychological and cognitive assessment. Prerequisites:<br />

PSY 5105.<br />

PSY 6546 POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (3 credits). Surveys<br />

clinical issues in the assessment and treatment <strong>of</strong> PTSD with a specific focus on the<br />

combat veteran. Prerequisites: PSY 5502, PSY 5527.<br />

PSY 6550 MARITAL AND SEX THERAPY (3 credits). Examines the major<br />

theoretical approaches to couples’ therapy. Provides a survey <strong>of</strong> human sexuality and<br />

the determinants <strong>of</strong> sexual dysfunction, and assessment and treatment modalities.<br />

Includes opportunities for role-play with clinical vignettes. (Requirement: Approval by<br />

clinical training director and advanced practicum standing.) Prerequisites: PSY 5556,<br />

PSY 5595.<br />

PSY 6560 SUPERVISION IN CLINICAL TRAINING (2 credits). Considers<br />

various processes that influence the development <strong>of</strong> a psychotherapist. Also considers<br />

implications <strong>of</strong> research on psychotherapy and clinical outcome, the process <strong>of</strong><br />

supervision, predictable stages as a therapist, options <strong>of</strong> techniques in supervision and<br />

career-long issues.<br />

PSY 6561 CONSULTATION (2 credits). Examines the pr<strong>of</strong>ession and practice <strong>of</strong><br />

consultation. Models and applications include education and training, and clinical,<br />

mental health, behavioral, organizational and program approaches. Reviews common<br />

processes, principles and practices <strong>of</strong> the consulting psychologist.<br />

PSY 6562 ADMINISTRATION OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES (2 credits).<br />

Introduces the clinician in training to the major concepts, issues and skills necessary<br />

for success in the management and administration <strong>of</strong> behavioral health services.<br />
