MGT 5079 TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Examines the various means<br />

<strong>of</strong> directing, controlling and supervising functions involved in furnishing transportation<br />

services and facilities. Examines in detail service support to the customer and the<br />

principles and problems involved.<br />

MGT 5083 GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AND<br />

INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS (3 credits). Focuses on global business. Covers<br />

managing raw materials and finished products, developing transportation and logistics<br />

strategies, and merging transportation policies with production and marketing plans.<br />

Also covers global supply chain analysis and planning to link marketplace, distribution,<br />

manufacturing, assembly and procurement activities.<br />

MGT 5084 MATERIEL ACQUISITION MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />

Examines the life cycle process <strong>of</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> materiel and materiel systems.<br />

Examines systems management and its application from acquisition to termination.<br />

Studies need requirements, cost and schedule considerations and procurement<br />

procedures. May serve as the capstone for certain majors.<br />

MGT 5087 MANAGEMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (3 credits).<br />

Studies various contemporary carrier modes, emphasizing management problems<br />

common to all modes <strong>of</strong> domestic and international transportation. Investigates and<br />

discusses transportation engineering, use <strong>of</strong> transportation facilities and materiel, and<br />

economic, personnel, labor and union aspects.<br />

MGT 5088 PROJECT AND PROGRAM RISK MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />

Systematically approaches risk management from project initiation to project planning,<br />

implementation, control and closeout. Discusses various techniques and models for<br />

qualitative/quantitative risk assessment and risk management in areas such as cost,<br />

schedule and outputs. Prerequisites: MGT 5006, MGT 5017.<br />

MGT 5089 MULTIPLE PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Examines<br />

alternative methods to plan, schedule and control multi-projects within an organizational<br />

setting. Includes the role <strong>of</strong> multiple projects within an organization and the<br />

impact on conventional day-to-day workflow. Prerequisites: MGT 5017.<br />

MGT 5090 PRACTICUM FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />

Formulates and applies the knowledge <strong>of</strong> project management in an integrative fashion<br />

within a project team environment. Requires a written project plan and a significant<br />

research paper or challenging project. May serve as the capstone for certain majors.<br />

Prerequisites: MGT 5088, MGT 5089.<br />

MGT 5091 RESEARCH SEMINAR IN MANAGEMENT 1 (1 credit).<br />

Independent study with a faculty member in some area <strong>of</strong> management in greater depth<br />

than is normally possible in a regular class. Requires a comprehensive term paper.<br />

MGT 5092 RESEARCH SEMINAR IN MANAGEMENT 2 (2 credits).<br />

Independent study with a faculty member in some area <strong>of</strong> management in greater depth<br />

than is normally possible in a regular class. Requires a comprehensive term paper.<br />

MGT 5093 PRACTICUM OF QUALITY MANAGEMENT (3 credits).<br />

Formulates and applies the knowledge and skills <strong>of</strong> quality management principles and<br />

practices in an integrative fashion within a project environment. Requires a written<br />

quality project plan. Involves a significant research paper or challenging capstone<br />

project designed to demonstrate mastery over the complete curriculum. Prerequisites:<br />

MGT 5024, MGT 5088, MGT 5131.<br />

MGT 5100 DISTRIBUTION MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Distribution systems<br />

and management from a cost vs. return view. U.S. and world transportation systems’<br />

impact on distribution centers, automated order processing, warehousing techniques<br />

and layout, organization for physical distribution management, total systems approach,<br />

government regulation, distribution components and management <strong>of</strong> distribution<br />

resources.<br />

MGT 5101 LEADERSHIP THEORY AND EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT<br />

(3 credits). Introduces and examines historical development <strong>of</strong> leadership theory<br />

and supporting research. Considers past and contemporary theory in self-analysis by<br />

students to define their own leadership styles. Prerequisites: MGT 5013.<br />

MGT 5105 INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS AND CONFLICT<br />

RESOLUTION (3 credits). Covers interpersonal behavior in two-person relationships,<br />

emphasizing interpersonal communication and conflict resolution. Also covers<br />

group processes, development and how group norms and culture influence interpersonal<br />

relationships. Prerequisites: MGT 5013.<br />

MGT 5106 ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION (3 credits). Includes<br />

basic communication theory and the effects <strong>of</strong> communication on human behavior<br />

and organizational effectiveness. Provides a basic understanding <strong>of</strong> organizational<br />

communication theory. Uses case studies and experiential exercises to improve communications<br />

skills.<br />

MGT 5112 SEMINAR IN CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN HUMAN<br />

RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Surveys significant socio-political,<br />

legal, technological and economic issues in contemporary organizations and member<br />

work-life quality. Uses current and personal experiences within organizations. May<br />

serve as the capstone for certain majors. Prerequisites: MGT 5033.<br />

MGT 5113 PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR INFORMATION<br />

TECHNOLOGY (3 credits). Examines the components and management process <strong>of</strong><br />

complex projects from the information technology (IT) perspective. Introduces project<br />

management tools and techniques useful to the IT pr<strong>of</strong>essional. Studies the formation<br />

and leadership requirements <strong>of</strong> project management.<br />

MGT 5114 INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION SECURITY<br />

MANAGEMENT (3 credits). Examines the fundamental principles <strong>of</strong> computer<br />

security as applied to information technology (IT). Covers foundations, psychology,<br />

prevention, detection, human factors, technical considerations, management processes<br />

and future considerations for the security <strong>of</strong> information technology.<br />

MGT 5115 GLOBAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT<br />

(3 credits). Covers theory, development and impacts <strong>of</strong> national and international<br />

policy on information technology (IT). Explores how frequent shifts in public policy<br />

require IT businesses to adjust rapidly to adhere to regulations. Requires development<br />

<strong>of</strong> sophisticated strategies including new technologies, global transfer and analysis to<br />

be able to adapt to the changing environment.<br />

MGT 5119 ACCOUNTING FOR NONPROFIT ENTITIES (3 credits). Covers<br />

accounting systems employed by universities and other nonpr<strong>of</strong>it entities. Includes fund<br />

accounting used by municipalities and county, state and federal government, and financial<br />

management cycle from planning through evaluation. Prerequisites: MGT 5001.<br />

MGT 5131 PRODUCTIVITY MEASUREMENT AND IMPROVEMENT<br />

(3 credits). Covers the productivity and quality improvement process, organizing for<br />

successful implementation <strong>of</strong> the Deming philosophy, organizational structure and<br />

implementing teams. Includes productivity, pr<strong>of</strong>it and quality, organizational anxieties,<br />

measurement problems, partial/total firm productivity, JIT and TQM. Prerequisites:<br />

MGT 5006.<br />

MGT 5132 BASIC ECONOMICS (3 credits). Covers market forces <strong>of</strong> supply and<br />

demand, concept <strong>of</strong> utility, firm and production, production function and costs <strong>of</strong> production,<br />

and various market structures. Introduces macroeconomics, the issues <strong>of</strong> aggregation,<br />

circular flow model, monetary sector and the government stabilization policies.<br />

MGT 5133 ADVANCED ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR MANAGEMENT<br />

(3 credits). Quantitative models using management science, operations research and<br />

decision science techniques with business applications. Includes linear and integer<br />

linear programming (graphical and simplex methods), inventory models, queuing<br />

models and Markov processes. Prerequisites: MGT 5006, MGT 5022.<br />

MGT 5134 COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE IN SPACE (3 credits). Includes<br />

economic considerations <strong>of</strong> space processing and Earth resources observation; history<br />

<strong>of</strong> in-space experimentation and developments; definition <strong>of</strong> Earth’s orbital environment<br />

and its attendant commercial advantages; launch operations and landing/<br />

retrieval; financial/pr<strong>of</strong>it considerations <strong>of</strong> operating in space; and current commercial<br />

space opportunities and risks.<br />

MGT 5136 INVESTMENT ANALYSIS (3 credits). Includes portfolio design,<br />

analysis and management including the Markowitz approach to portfolio design;<br />

the simplified model <strong>of</strong> William Sharpe; and the capital asset pricing model. Covers<br />

the management <strong>of</strong> bond and equity portfolios, portfolio optimization, arbitrage and<br />

hedging techniques. Prerequisites: MGT 5002, MGT 5006.<br />

MGT 5137 THE MANAGEMENT OF ENGINEERING AND<br />

TECHNOLOGY (3 credits). Explores relationships between technology, innovation,<br />

management and business operations. Studies technology strategy in terms <strong>of</strong><br />

the discovery-product-market path. Relates the management functions <strong>of</strong> planning,<br />

organizing and controlling to life cycles. Uses case studies.<br />

MGT 5138 BUSINESS ETHICS (3 credits). Covers concepts <strong>of</strong> moral philosophy<br />

and their relevance to decision making, and applies this understanding in a wide<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> practical management settings. Extensively uses case analyses.<br />

MGT 5140 INTERNATIONAL FINANCE (3 credits). Covers international<br />

financial systems and methods needed to adapt to the international setting. Includes<br />

international monetary system, foreign exchange markets and international trade,<br />

international accounting and taxation, foreign direct financial investment, international<br />

capital markets, multinational capital budgeting, exchange exposure and risk<br />

management. Prerequisites: MGT 5002.<br />

MGT 5141 IMPLEMENTING STATISTICAL PROCESS CONTROL (3 credits).<br />

Implements an overall SPC program, emphasizing how to manage a process<br />

throughout the entire organization with the aid <strong>of</strong> tools and methods for the improvement<br />

<strong>of</strong> quality. Includes how to target processes for SPC, conduct process capability<br />

studies and maintain ongoing process control. Prerequisites: MGT 5006.<br />

MGT 5142 BUSINESS, GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC POLICY (3 credits).<br />

Covers the legal basis <strong>of</strong> the relationship <strong>of</strong> business and government, dimensions <strong>of</strong><br />

federal regulation <strong>of</strong> business through Congressional action, administrative oversight<br />

by executive department agencies, regulatory power <strong>of</strong> independent agencies (Federal<br />

Reserve, SEC and FTC) and importance <strong>of</strong> political action committees in the influencing<br />

<strong>of</strong> public policy.<br />
