Shown below is the Eldorado front wheel drive. In<br />

order to transmit driving torque to the front wheels,<br />

it is necessary to reverse the flow of power coming<br />

off the engine crankshaft. Dividing the transmission<br />

accomplishes this reverse power flow. The converter<br />

(A) is connected directly to the engine crankshaft.<br />

A chain drive (8) connects the converter to<br />

the rest of the transmission (C) which points toward<br />

the front of the car. The chain drive turns the power<br />

flow around, transmitting power from the converter<br />

to the gear section of the transmission. Power then<br />

flows to the final drive unit (D) which performs the<br />

differential function in rear wheel drive cars. Here,<br />

torque is multiplied and delivered to the right and<br />

left axles (E), completing the power flow from the<br />

engine to the front wheels.<br />
