They are a lightweight cast iron design with individual
inlet and exhaust ports for each cylinder in a
configuration that allows for optimum induction and
exhaust flow characteristics. A new stainless steel
cylinder head gasket is used for better compression
ratio control. Generous passages around the spark
plugs, valves and valve guides help assure proper
cooling.
The valve train plays one of the key roles in the
smoothness of the Cadillac engine. Overhead
valves, push rods and rocker arms are all machined
for smoothness, quietness and long life. The
Valve Train And Camshaft
hardened cast iron camshaft, driven from the
crankshaft by a silent chain drive, has exceptionally
quiet idle and high-speed characteristics.
Starter Motor
The Cadillac starter motor is especially designed for
quietness, long life and a high, sure-fire cranking
speed for quick starts. The solenoid lever is completely
enclosed for maximum wet weather protection
and dirt-free operation. An overrunning clutch
protects the starter motor from excessive speed
when the engine starts.
