<strong>The</strong>re are two noticeable varieties <strong>of</strong> this edition, <strong>the</strong> one with an<br />

Admonitio printed on mr^, <strong>the</strong> back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> last page <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> table, <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r with-that page blank. In general <strong>the</strong> former variety has <strong>the</strong> error<br />

in paging before mentioned, while <strong>the</strong> latter has <strong>the</strong> paging correct.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are also, however, copies which want <strong>the</strong> Admonitio but have <strong>the</strong><br />

error in paging, for instance, one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> copies in <strong>the</strong> Bodleian and <strong>the</strong><br />

copy in University College, London. A translation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Admonitio<br />

referred to above is given in <strong>the</strong> Notes, page 87.<br />

A specimen page <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> table is given opposite, and a full description<br />

<strong>of</strong> its arrangement will be found in section 59 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Constructio.<br />

<strong>The</strong> work, Scriptores Logarithmici, consists <strong>of</strong> six large quarto volumes,<br />

and was compiled by Baron Francis Maseres. <strong>The</strong> volumes<br />

appeared in <strong>the</strong> years 1791, 1791, 1796, 1801, 1804, and 1807 respect-<br />

S 2 ively.
