<strong>The</strong> second and third books <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Trigonometria deal with <strong>the</strong> subjects<br />

treated <strong>of</strong> in Napier's Descriptio and Constructio, <strong>the</strong>se works<br />

being largely made use <strong>of</strong> by Ursinus, who speaks <strong>of</strong> Napier as a<br />

Ma<strong>the</strong>matician without equal (see p. 131, 1. 5). <strong>The</strong> references in <strong>the</strong><br />

text are to <strong>the</strong> Lyons edition <strong>of</strong> 1620 (see p. 178).<br />

<strong>The</strong> Magnus Canon contains <strong>the</strong> <strong>logarithms</strong> <strong>of</strong> sines for every 10" in<br />

<strong>the</strong> quadrant. <strong>The</strong>y are arranged in a similar way, and are <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same<br />

kind as those in Napier's Canon <strong>of</strong> 16 14, but are carried one place<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r,
